But its slightly fantasy football

JCR is a given

Todorov, nice but it wont happen

Doubts about Lockwood too

I'd expect a lot of Tilly specific wheeling and dealing before the start of the new season

Good point mate! But, they are affordable (i think). However whats your opinion?? My line up is dreamed up of a realistic Championship side not taking into consideration the buying/wheeling and dealling!

Gray, pacy, used to stretch tired defences as we approach full time

Lawson, young, talented..Championship material? Maybe a spell on loan to see how a regular team place plays out

Mcleod is a player we wont, good talent regardless of problems off the pitch

Youve taken a lot of 'available' or soon to be players of the required level and fashioned a team out of them, which is what we will need to do to stay in the Championship (which we hopefully will reach (naysayers post here

))

Realistic in terms of players available, but we'll have to see

Bradbury is committed, chases down oppostion players, tackles like his life depended on it, and chases down lost causes

But isnt he also a striker being played out of position

Ive defended Lawson enough this season, came in and did the job when required...and is still very young

With respect to Gray and Bradbury who have been good in Lge 1 - can they cut it in the C'Ship?? I think we will need too purchase P'ship benchwalmers (AKA Splinter ar*ses) i.e Todorov, Lisbie to consolodate/push etc! I know even those two maybe out of our budget but its those kinda players we need to target! Agree???

Mercenaries not interested in playing for Southend? Are you sure?

How about other teams rejects/young players?

Remember how Tilly turned League 1 relegation fodder into League leaders with a few choice signings (Bradbury and Sodje). Do we really need that many new players?

Ok, I tried to build a team on what I think is a realstic measure and want you guys to do the same on what you think is affordable if we go up! By the way, How much would we get if promoted/champions?

Also, Im impressed at how many people are still around/posting this time at night.......morning! Are we sad or gay??

I think we will need at least 7.

For starters, Goater, Prior and Edwards will be gone. There must be massive question marks over whether or not Griemink and Jupp get offered contracts too. So thats 5 just to replace those who are departing and we need to increase the squad size for the Championship.

It wouldn't surprise me if we didn't sign McLeod and Byfield. Gall from Yeovil is another player I think Tilly has looked at in the past.

You only have to look at who will be left to see where the side needs strengthening.

Goalkeeper - We need another one as cover.

Right back - I think Jupp will be released. Hunt and Wilson can play there so we're probably ok. It's Wilsons preferred position anyway.

Left back - We need a specialist left back with Wilson to cover.

Centre back - We will have Barrett, Sodje, Hunt and Nash. I would like to see one more because Nash will be one for the future and Hunt I imagine will be right back.

Defensive summary - need 1 keeper, 1 centre back, 1 left back.


Wide midfield - We have JCR, Gower, Cole, Bradbury, Bentley, Pettefer, Lawson and Gray who can play out wide. Of those players I don't think Pettefer will be offered a new contract and Bradbury will be that one year older as well. I think he may be released too. I also fear that Gower, Cole and Bentley may find the Championship a level too high for them. I'd certainly retain them as squad players but I expect to see McLeod come in.

Centre midfield - Maher and Guttridge will be the preferred starting pair. Jay Smith will be released. Bentley, Bradbury and Pettefer can play there but see above comments. At least 1 strong central player will be brought in I think.
Maybe Gall.

Midfield summary - 1 wide player and 1, maybe 2 central to come in.

Strikers

We will have Eastwood, Gray and Lawson. Will Gray be retained? I don't know. Lawson will be too young to play a major role. I would like to see 2 strikers in, with Byfield being one of them.

Good post! I think there are probably two or three more new faces than we'll end up with. Tilly doesn't want to destroy the team spirit any more than he has to but with JCR already in the bag, McLeod probably already sorted, Byfield may already be lined up plus one or two more Tilson will have already sounded with a "Will you come if we go up?". Doesn't look like a team that will be quaking in its boots at the thought of facing CCC teams.

Love to see Steve Kabba playing alongside Freddy,he is a london boy and i am sure the nutter warnock wil let him go.I am sure if we play our cards right we could get Byfield as well.

If we go up it doesn't matter how much of a crowd/personal favourite some of these players are. We need new and stronger blood just to be able to achieve 19th place next season.

I know the selection of Barrett is controversial but for me he is the weakest of our central defenders. His habit of continually using his arms is infuriating and will cause problems with experienced forwards. He also has no right foot.

If Cole beefs up a bit he'll be a great option to bring on if things aren't going our way.

I've not included JCR in the list but for me we need.

Another keeper, a first choice left back, a centre back, a winger, another central midfielder and at least two forwards.
