I've said this so many times now, it's not an overall lack of quality of individuals.

It's a lack of diversity of leadership personalities, physical atributes, and general ****housery. We're too nice, too predictable and too naive.

Put any of our regular fisrt team squad in any other team, surround them with players that compliment their style (i.e. by them being something different) and watch them flourish.

I am generously putting this woeful team building down to off field issues and embargoes, this is what we need to address in the summer above anything else as it's so bleeding obvious.

Therefore if this is not rectified over the close season then the blame will lie squarely with the managment team, if they sort that out we should find more consistency and allow our more technical players to flourish.

Cav Miley is proving to be a bit divisive amongst Zoners. Fully fit, I believe he still has a lot to offer the squad, and now he is nearly reaching that point, I'm for keeping him. On the question of fitness, I'd have a hard look at our Medical team as I'm not convinced injuries have not been made worse by treatment at times.

The name of the player in this post has suffered on more than one occasion of this…

He certainly isn’t the only one.

One thing I don’t think we’ve taken into account when looking to offload some players. We are at a squad standard now IMO where there would be takers for players that we maybe think have run their course here given the stats above. Noor for example would be far more in demand by teams of our level than players closer to the twilight of their careers, i.e Coulson.
Absolutely. IF cav, noor, Coker became available there would be zero problem moving them in. FWIW I would Absolutely look to rebuild the midfield. Need some big athletic bodies in there dominating proceedings. KAF is OK but his size Absolutely counts against him.

If we have intentions of going up we need more pace on the wings , we can defend and can keep the ball as good as the next team but ive not seen us cut open teams with our pace, as mentioned we need a proper leader and one that can mix it up at this level and above - too many points have been dropped this season from getting out muscled and sucker punched when we are having a poor spell in games

I think we can improve on the below
Hayes
Gubbbins
Walker
Coker ( harsh but true im afraid )
Hopper
Husin ( too inconsistent)
Bridge - again on his day is a good footballer but lacking of pace, power and goals from open play
Crowther

IMO we should be building the team around these guys

Golding
KAF
Taylor
Kendall
Parillon
Morton

Unless something very unexpected happens, Oxford Utd will not accept our current offer for Golding, and the likelihood would be another loan to an FL team. Mind you, I thought we had no chance of signing Lopata from Sheffield Utd, so what do I know?

That was ron splashing the hmrc cash tho....

If Jack is here next season we need a Wes type player to compliment playing alongside him to get the best out if Jack.

I don't think it's s coincidence that Wes left and Jack's form took a downwards dip. Wes may not have been the best but he knew how to draw the defenders to enable some space for Jack to operate in.

Unfortunately J at the moment Jack doesnt look as though he could put a cross in a kiddies noughts and crosses board

Let's have it right our best this season is barely setting the world alight. Should be aiming higher
Couldn’t agree more. One of the blandest players we’ve ever had here, whose sole calling card is that he has been with us for the entirety of our worst ever era in professional football.

And this is supposed to be the influential and inspiring captain 😂

I've been pleasantly pleased to see Ben Clarkson back watching, at the sponsors evening, and around. As @TheSouthendUnitedRunner says, Cav is not the only one who has suffered under the current medical team, if Ben is able to offer even a couple of minutes of his time to help in certain scenarios where things have been missed then it would save us a considerable amount of wasted time for some players on the sidelines.

I've never been a huge fan of him captaining the side, but in terms of his ability he is a quality footballer and worthy of more than the National League.

This may seem controversial but if we keep him for next season - I would make Bonne captain.

If you watch him he is always talking, especially when Bim was here and to Kendall - when Kendall missed that sitter at the North Bank goal versus.....(help!).....he was straight over to him with an arm around the shoulder.

Plus he - Bonne - has a nice element of ****housery about him (the time wasting in the corner v Oldham for example).

As a player alone, agreed that Ralph is worth a place in the team.

But glad people are seeing a point I've been making for a while, not convinced he's captain material.

A new captain next season please... one that leaves no place to hide for our players, and is willing to grab games and sometimes scummy oppo by the scruff of the neck.

We won’t be able to upgrade on every single player in the squad.

Yes, we need to improve on some for sure. Others we have would be more than capable as squad players. Imagine, last season, saying that Jack Bridge would be a squad player. He was the first name on the team sheet back then.

Ralph is more than capable of playing at the top of the National League, and would be towards the bottom of my list of players to upgrade on.

Not forgetting he played most of last season on non-contract basis, like Bridge.

Whilst he isn’t a shout and scream captain, he is a hugely respected and valued member of the squad, by the other players and the management trio. I have no qualms with him being captain, but also I don’t have a problem if Kev wants a “leader” as captain.

Not that it’s relevant to footballing matters, but Ralph was the one who organised the signed shirt for me, and is very good at community things. A leader ambassador for the club.

Although, footballers in general and not just at Southend United, there doesn’t appear to be many leaders left in the game. We won’t get captains like JT, Keane, Pearce etc or at our level, a Barrett, a Corr, or a Timlin.
