With the desperate call-up of Darren Pattinson (leve space for edit 10-wicket Darren Pattinson), it got me thinking who would win in a straight match up between the English Aussie XI and the English SeffAfrikaan XI in a one-off Test match?
The line-ups are based upon being born, or extensively raised in those countries. All have played either Test or ODI cricket for England.
English Aussie XI: Jason Gallian, Billy Murdoch, Adam Hollioake, Craig White, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Tim Ambrose (wk), Gubby Allen, Ben Hollioake (RIP), Darren Pattinson, Martin McCague, Allan Mullally.
A wealth of bowling options for the Aussies, but thin on batting, with A. Hollioake at 3 and Craig White at 4. Also two ancient players in Gubby ALlen and Billy Murdoch have had to be unearthed.
English SeffAfrikaan XI: Andrew Strauss, Chris Smith, Allan Lamb, Kevin Pietersen, Robin Smith, Paul Parker, Tony Greig, Basil d'Oliveira, Matt Prior (wk), Ian Greig, Neal Radford
Great batting line-up (geart first 9) but an opening attack of Radford and I. Greig is hardly going to send shudders down the spine of the oppo'. Not much back-up bowling apart from the dibbly-dobblers of Dolly, plus spin from Tony Greig and KP.
