Seen the England shirt in Sports-Direct, it looks awful, even the red shirt looks worse in the flesh.

What were they thinking...

Probably similar to US sports, where an authentic NBA jersey will set you back hundreds, and a replica maybe £50. I wonder if we'll see that creep into football shirts in the future, with mass-producible replicas compared to 100% authentic ones.

I think you'll find it's the other way around. For example, the Southend shirts we buy are poor quality compared to the ones the team wears. I reckon the same is true of previous England shirts. All Nike have done is allow people with more money than sense to spend more on a "proper" shirt that wasn't made available with previous England kits.

AFAIK navy was always our colour. Certainly from the stories my dad has told me. He started watching Southend in the 50's. He always told me that refs had to change from the (then) traditional black when they refereed at Roots Hall.

Personally I'd like to stick to that, and we could do a lot worse than the French kit.

Slight deviation as this is a World Cup thread, but royal blue has been our main colour more often than not if this is anything to go by

That said, I think we've been navy long enough now that we should stick with it.

i thin k the 66 world cup finals,either 12 or 14 teams (16 participated), wore umbro shirts...umbro were a british firm then,now in the last few years,yank
