2017 General Election thread

Because they're not led by an incompetent who published a manifesto full of numbers that don't add up, and is sympathetic to racism. They're not led by someone who panders to terrorists of whatever persuasion.
'Because they're not led by an incompetent'

Well if you don't think Theresa May is incompetent after today you are in a tiny minority.

'who published a manifesto full of numbers that don't add up'

She went one worse than that - she punished a manifesto with very few policy ideas and few of those were costed. Her ministers have been on TV saying that the costs will be decided after the election - that is not how manifestos work. £8 billion for the NHS under scrutiny she has had to admit is not new money but will come from 'a strong economy'. With national debt now up to 89% of GDP that sounds like she is looking for a magic money tree.

'and is sympathetic to racism'

Did you not see the 'go home' van that she commissioned? Or her constant belittling of immigrants. Allowing the threat of deportation to hang over the heads of EU citizens who came here legally. Deported 48,000 overseas students on spurious terms. Are you not aware of the racism of the Tory London Mayor candidate and the man she promoted to Foreign Secretary?

'They're not led by someone who panders to terrorists of whatever persuasion'

Have the arms sales to Saudi Arabia been cancelled? The bombing of Yemeni civilians is not being undertaken using British made weapons? I'm pretty sure that the large scale murder in Yemen has happened and Theresa May's government has made a ton of money on these acts of terrorism.

I don't know about anyone else but your reasons to vote Conservative I don't find very convincing.

He's right you know.

Best reply so far on faceache.....

I've noticed on my friend list, that those who vote Conservative are thinking of themselves, and those who vote Labour are thinking of everyone else x

And that is why Socialism is a dead duck. I refer you all back to one of my last replies about this 'me me me' capitalist society we live in. It's the way of the world and won't ever change. Bliars 'New labour' knew it and that's why he to an extent and some of his cronies were more right wing than some on the left of the Tory party. Get used to it and get on the bus. Nothing will change.

Perhaps when people see the tories want to snatch their inheritance by taking their parents houses to pay for social care. Or their child is not getting the education they need. Or they have longer waits for the treatment they need on the NHS. Or they see immigration is not going down as the tories promise year on year. Of course, they will able to got fox hunting to take their minds of things.

Socialism may not be the dead duck you claim when people realise what Mrs May and her team really stand for.

The Conservatives are tweeting that Corbyn will raise basic rate of income tax to 25%.
It says in the Labour manifesto there will be no increase in basic rate. Maybe the Tories don't realise that a manifesto is a pledge, maybe they think it is a suggestion that can be changed a few days later.

This is the official Conservatives twitter feed - blatantly lying about another party's policies - presumably they don't think they can win against Labour's actual policies.

Strong and stable not working, maybe lying is the way forward?

This could be a Brown moment

Corbyn like Cameroon has to say nothing and let the opposition destroy it self

I thought May was awlful on Andrew Neil last night, it seems JC band wagon is moving fast, but alas I feel too late

So you're not denying anything I said. You're just trying to make the point that she's no better? Deary me.

There's plenty more. I was in a hurry. But if you don't think pandering to terrorists, or being sympathetic to racism is an issue then I fear for you.

At least that way he wouldn't have got them all wrong, and come over as incompetent.

exactly - May started the election saying she was 'strong and stable' over and over again, then has nothing to say to back that up. Boris Johnson on Marr literally answered every question on the Tories by slating Corbyn. Corbyn on the other hand is going out there and highlighting what Labour would do rather than just relying on slating what the Tories would do.

If the Tories have something positive to offer they should spell it out rather than just saying 'trust us'.

And you think May's come across as competent in the last few days?

That wasn't the point. Most people will maintain the status quo when there is no difference. To win you have to come over as better than the opposition. Corduroy isn't doing that.

In the meantime, we now find out that Christine Shawcroft, a member of the Labour NEC (and a member of Momentum who really run the labour party) has decided the way to deal with IS terrorists is for our armed forces to sit down and have tea with them.

Is this more fake news? Or can you provide a link for this story?
