Gateshead kicked out of playoffs

Following the announcement earlier today that Gateshead are ineligible to compete in this season’s National League play-offs, the League wishes to make the following statement.

National League rules state that in the event of a club being removed from the play-offs and not being replaced, the structure of the draw should be adjusted based on final league positions.

Therefore, the League can now confirm an amended play-off schedule as follows:
Wednesday 24 April – 7pm
Eliminator B – Solihull Moors v FC Halifax Town
Saturday 27 April – 5.30pm
Semi-Final – Barnet v Altrincham
Sunday 28 April – 4pm
Bromley v Solihull Moors/FC Halifax Town

The League hopes this now clarifies its position on the National League play-offs.
So the earlier NL announcement at the start of this thread said that Solihull would get a bye, now they have changed that. OK it is more fair to Altincham but they truly do make it up as they go along, muppets.

Agree with the above, similar in rugby, if your stadium 🏟️ is not up to scratch then you can’t get promotion.
Equally crap though is that the relegated team stay up and there is no promotion- the team that finished runners up, end up with nothing, bit of a pointless season really imo

I can't believe all this. So, if Gateshead appeal and are successful, then what happens to the schedules, all back to the beginning again? Break out the popcorn.

What a clown show this league really is. A league fitting of the owner that put us here,

Can they appeal? From what I have read they had until 1st March to resolve the issue so they knew and the NL knew this was coming.
I thought I read they had already moved to appeal, but possibly not.... However, I did a Google and found this link. Apparently Gateshead in 2019 had been refused entry into the NL because of their inability to secure tenure of its ground. What!!!
Here's the article, see what you make of it:

What I can't understand is why Coventry were allowed to participate in the EFL when homeless and yet Gateshead can't because they can't guarantee a home for 10 years!

Surely that is ridiculous.

If you can prove next season or a couple of seasons then that should be enough.

Not sure why direct parallels are being drawn between Gateshead and Coventry.

Gateshead would be seeking an EFL license fresh and hence the criteria for gaining one may well be stricter than someone like Coventry who may have been seeking to renew or maintain a pre-existing one.

Did Coventry have their issues going into the 2024/25 season? No, but Gateshead do so the rules may well be different as a result of but necessarily limited to Coventry's situation in the past.

Coventry played at Northampton which already had the neccessary license

So it turns out it's the council's fault. The National League actually wrote to the council to try and help Gateshead. The council wouldn't give the club a ten year lease on the stadium (a requirement from the EFL). All explained in the video below:

Regardless for the NL to not address this sooner (surely they must have known about it) is poor, considering it impacts their own competition. Even worse if they were unaware of the issue.
How is it the NL’s fault that Gateshead don’t meet the known EFL criteria?

And it’s not as if Aldershot deserve the playoff spot. They lost 17 games and had a negative goal difference!

Never said it was the NL's fault?

Simply that they should address a problem that affects their competition, rather than let the season conclude knowing the Heed couldn't make the playoffs.

On the basis of the final standings Aldershot should have been next in line for a chance, and if you were a Shots fan you'd be annoyed about this.

Yes we had a rather unfair 10 point deduction and all, but very little we can do about that one.
