But why??
I do. I also remember the old St Johns Ambulance caravan at the back of the stand. It got progressively worse each season, but never got moved or replaced. I reckon that anyone taken in there would have come out worse than they were when they went in![b said:Quote[/b] (old leigh shrimper @ Nov. 17 2005,00:28)]My dad took me to the hall back in 1974 aged 7 (that's me aged 7,not dad), stood at the back of the old south bank in front of the 'dolmans' advertising boarding, near the old clock and scoreboard......do you remember that??? Happy Days!!!
I remeber the Neil Townsend goal, I was at the front of the South Bank so will look it up, it may have been Workington, 2-0, around 1977?[b said:Quote[/b] (londonblue @ Nov. 17 2005,09:00)]I do. I am really envious of all the people that remember their first match as I can't. According to my dad I was about 2 years old and so small he had to carry me over the turnstiles as I couldn't move them! I simply have no recollection of it.
My earliest memory was of Neil Townsend (playing right back I think) hitting a long ball forward from just outside the area in front of the North Bank, and the North end of the West Stand. It went over everyone's heads, bounced over the 'keeper and in to the net. I have no idea if I have the right player, or who it was against.
And things have only just started to get better![b said:Quote[/b] (Matt the Shrimp @ Nov. 17 2005,10:17)]Bit of gloryhunting from me... started getting very interested in football aged about 16, wondered about going to see my local side (Southend), saw they were doing really well, went to watch them, went to the North Bank... was hooked.
Still here 14 years later...!
