The Wire

Hi all,

I have a brand-new (in wrapper) copy of the 1st series. I'll happily sell it to someone for £10, including postage. PM me if interested

I'm moist about this, let me know how the first episode is!

EDIT - downloading the first episode

Haven't checked out Generation Kill yet, but The Corner left me a bit cold.

Quite dated in comparison to The Wire and is essentially the same. Revolves around similar characters (often played by Wire actors) and themes, and feels much like what I expected; a trial run for a bigger and better show.

Has it's moments, but the style felt a bit plonky in comparison. Don't think I'll bother with the full show...

Just finished series five which was definitely the weakest. The whole newspaper sub plot felt tacked on to pad the story out.

Not watching Series 2. Never finished series 1, unlike shows like Lost, 24, Soprano's I never felt the "must see" factor with it. Sorry, just don't get the fuss over it!

I stopped watching Lost after 3 episodes - absolute pony.

The Wire is up there with the Sopranos as some of the best drama I have seen on TV.

Well agree to disagree Cyril. I love Lost, always have and can't get The Wire. Do you want a box set, mostly unused, of Series 1 of The Wire for £5?

I'm not looking at this thread in case there are any spoliers. Suffice to say though The Wire is bloody brilliant. I'm away this week so haven't seen it for a few days but have a nice few episodes of Season 2 sitting on my Sky+ box waiting to be enjoyed. Mos def.

Well now its all over I'm really chuffed I made the effort to watch it all.

Series 4 was my favourite overall but despite so many people warning me about series 5 I thought it picked up in the end. The ending was utterly depressing seeing how things turned out for some of the characters but glad they didn't go for a Disney ending!

I've got the last three of series 5 on Sky+ and I've really enjoyed them all. I thought series 2 mainly centred around the port of Baltimore was excellent.

Have now seen all five seasons. Some of the political statements were clumsy and I thought the gay/lesbian sex scenes were gratuitous. These are my only complaints though. What a fantastic series. I had to wipe a tear from my eye when Bubbles joined his family at the dinner table, but I was praying for a decent end for Duquey - alas, it was not to be.
