Southend Board and chairman in particular

They have publically criticised a player who by most was well thought of. .

Assuming this is a reference to Alex Revell it's a blatant rewriting of history. Most people said he was an honest trier who wasn't good enough.
He only turned into the peoples hero after GK put his foot in his mouth.

Too true , but i think most myself included would rather see a trier than a player with quality who doesnt try.

Geoff king has shown a real lack of respect and upset a tight playing staff and team unit.

If you were : Walker / Freedman/ Herd / Scannell etc etc would you feel comfortable with that kind of talk coming from the board?

These players are going to be needed as the squad is decreasing all of the time. Not nice to know that someone who was thought highly of by the fans and who got more starts than you has been hounded out of the club by the board.

I apologise. You are right. No-one ever said a bad word about Paynter, Harrold, Hunt & Revell when they were here. I don't know where I could have got that idea from.
I don't give a monkey's about the chairman. If there is a credible owner out there who is prepared to invest money in the club I'd bite his hand off (The faceless consortium who are going to 'run the club like a business' fall well short of that if that's all they are going to do.)
But I'm sick of people talking as though it's an outrage that a club who have spent nearly their whole history in bottom two divisions and who have always sold their best players and always been hard up , are, well, in the bottom two divisions, hard up and selling the best players.

Prisoner, can you plse watch your tone. We don't want your sort on here spouting sense. It's totally against the spirit of the forum.
Now what I want to know is why Southend aren't in europe this season, personally I lie the blame at Ron Martin's door...

Have they answered nearly every question?

They havent answered nearly enough and the questions they have answered are old news or information which is already available.

They have publically criticised a player who by most was well thought of. Accused falsely the fans of fighting each other. And vicitimised a small businesess for financial gain amongst other things.

1) If the club was 'mismanaged' then we wouldn't have secured the finances to pay off our debts.

2) So your saying you know exactly what is happening at the club? So you want Ron to come out and say "We will be getting a loan from X business but they want to stay private so shhhh" and we are getting deeper.

3) Are you a professional person who has their job watched by 7k+ people every week and has to be a role model for young kids? Thought not.

4) He has only scored 17 this season. He hasn't been anywhere near that! We have used another loan to pay for another debt, but the HMRC should be top priority in paying debts and I doubt you can reason with them, which is possibly what we have with our new creditors.

5) Of course they are someone elses because they are loanees! Around 3 crap ones in 3 seasons compared to 14 good/amazing ones. Fair enough I thought you meant pay Barnard 5-6k per week.

6) They are telling us the latest news. Tilson came out and said it anyway NOT the board or RM. It wasn't for financial gain as we are willing to pay them the market value. To be fair, we were all thinking what King said but none of us would have said it if we were in his position. Revell does give 100% but he cant hit a barn door with a machine gun!

Happy?

I'd have much more interest and respect for some posters if, instead of just Discussing they actually had a decent and workable alternative plan.

Sadly they haven't... because there probably isn't one.

But I would suggest anyone who isn't happy try and do something about it.

Good luck with that.

People can moan but will hvr to accept that all we can do is wait and see what happens.

I wouldnt necessarily say i was Discussing , just not happy and with good reason.

For what its worth i really hope that come the end of the season we are league 1 and the club are on site to build fossetts thus releasing the funds to actually build a team capable of sustaining a genuine challenge.

I just dont see it happening and we have alot of players out of contract at the end of the season.

Being a realist i cant see as many people signing up for another season ticket at 400 quid if we are unable to sign decent players. I for one will not be one of them and will again part with the cash get behind the team , but that doesnt for one minute mean that i have to agree or like the way the club is being run.

I would renew my season ticket for new season but I will be off to Uni next year.

Yes agree, only survival in this league is good enough,if we go down, thats the time to point fingers, and i for one know where my fingers pointing if that happens, and it ain't Tilly.

It is for posts like these that the Zone exists. Reasoned debate is a good thing and sometimes there are no workable alternatives but that shouldn't stop members from posting their opinions.
We welcome all opinions as the posters on the forum will differ with their views but everyone is entitled to post and until we finish our journey to a new stadium (or not) we won't know for sure whether Ronald is a saint or a sinner.
Only time will tell.

Exactly.

I think most have come to terms with the fact that we cannot expect promotion as a default basic success anymore. At the moment, it'll be a success if we stay up and as Swiss Tony said, only if we get relegated can fingers really be pointed, or RM deemed to have risked the fortunes of the club and lost.

We have to play the waiting game!

I don't know about you, but I have particularly enjoyed some of East Stand Blue's recent contributions to the forum:whistling:

You sure have changed your tune...

If you ask me, People became drunk on the early success we had under Tilson and, as such, have grown to expect it. Historically we're a small, selling club that has had spells of achievement, eventually leading to us hitting a glass ceiling that our club size and infrastructure has forbid us from breaking.

Unfortunately, the club size won't change without the infrastructure, and the we're in the process of changing the infrastructure. Yes, we're having a bad season. Yes, we're not in the best of financial positions... But what more do you expect from a club of our size and stature?

Under Tilson (and indeed Ron Martin) our gates have doubled. Half of our fans won't have experienced the bad times.

I also think Ron Martin was one of those who got drunk on Tilson's success. I think it is a valid criticism, just not coming from those who were just as intoxicated.

the whole saga has turned into a very long and complicated property deal, plain and simple IMO, the question is will the deal reach completion.........who knows?

Personally if we can average 8k when having all of the issues we have had this season then i reckon had we been in and around the promotion picture like col u etc then we would have averaged 9k+ this season.

As it stands 8k average makes us what? 6 or 7th best supported in the league. So what do i expect ? Maybe a a top ten finish with an oustide chance of promotion atleast until the new ground arrives and we move .

If your basing your comment on size or stature then Do swansea have any right to be 4th in the championship?

Preston have been doing quite well in the championship for the last few years but only average 12k and scunthorpe Doncaster and blackpool are smaller than us but are comfortable in the championship , the latter more so.

We all know there is a lot more to it than crowd size , but it certainly helps and we are a growing club so maybe our ambitions should grow instead of pointing towards what we have been in the last 104 years and instead concentrate on what we are to become.

With that in mind this season is close to becoming a disaster. The new ground is great , but not if the team are relegated and the club is dragged through the mire in the process.

No, you're not the only one.

Many feel like you do, me included. Too many people have 'blind faith' in the powers-that-be.

Who has 'blind faith'?! Name a single person on here who has not expressed concerns. The difference between the 'rose-tinted' brigade and the pessimists is that one group are realists and the other aren't. And I'm afraid to say that the group who advocate spending our way out of trouble and attempting to match Leeds or Southampton as either a footballing or financial proposition are not the group who are realists.
