Do we watch a different game? He's a league 2 player with 1 year on his contract. And he spent a fair bit of time on the bench last season. Where's your comparables for a figure like this? Have you noticed that clubs without foreign owners don't have money these days? £200k would be a right result from our perspective.

He made 54 appearances last season; remind me when that "fair bit of time" occurred.

RM gambled with Eastwood, Martin, Benyon, Sampson, Hills, Dailly, Timlin etc. and that didn't achieve promotion. Keeping Hall does not mean we will go up.

Indeed, but letting him go means we would be one potential match winner worse off.

Indeed, keep at all costs. I know who Id rather have take our free kicks and corners and it aint David Martin. With Cresswell sounding deadly from set pieces, its vital we have someone who can put the ball in the danger areas.

Hurst is supposed to have a good corner. I'd be gutted for anything less than 500k +20%, but realistically that's a lot of money.

A year left on his contract shouldn't keep the price down too much - if more than one club wants him then they are bidding against each other rather than just finding a price that we can't refuse. If only one club is bidding then the chances are higher that he'll re-sign if we go up.

So we weigh up whether selling him now for 250k will make our chances of promotion less likely, and would keeping him and letting him go for free at the end of the season after him helping us gain promotion will be worth more than 250k in the long run.

Spot on. Promotion is worth a lot more than £250,000. As we all know, there is no guarantee of promotion but selling off your best players before the season starts for relatively small sums of money does not look the actions of a club seeking to get back into Division 3.

Personally pleased that we have two players we could potentially sell. Been a long time since that happened.

Hall has numerous clubs chasing him and there is no chance he will re-sign whether we go up or not - would you? He can get far more money elsewhere and potentially step up two divisions whether we get promoted or not. Face facts guys, he isn't going to stay past this coming season (if that!).

I'm sorry but I'm with a few other posters on here in that anyone who thinks we can realistically get £750k-£1m for a L2 winger in the final year of his contract is.....ahem....well let's go with "optimistic." If Hall goes for £750k or above I'll streak at the Accrington game and believe me no-one wants to see that!

OK two things to consider though:

(a) It's quite possible that keeping Hall if or when offers from big clubs like Forest come in will lead to the player becoming unhappy at SUFC. If this happens then it will do more harm than good if we keep him (and that's without losing out on a much-needed fee for a L2 club such as ourselves).

and

(b) With a player like Hall it's short-sighted to view it as quite so black and white. Personally I think £250k for a player with one year left on his deal and entitled to walk for nothing next summer is an acceptable fee in the current climate. Only clubs with benefactors are splashing out big money this summer, there's even a lot of Championship clubs scratching around for Bosman signings. It's also not as simple as considering the basic fee, if we sell now or in January we can insist on a juicy sell-on % structured in to any deal for Hall - something we can't do if we allow his contract to run out. Think back to Gary Hooper, for whatever reason it didn't work out for him here but I believe the final figure we received for him was around the £550k mark due mainly to the sell-on with Scunthorpe. Hall is still young enough to progress with a Championship club and make us a sizeable sell-on fee when he moves on from there. This should certainly be taken into account by Ron and Luggy.

There is absolutely no guarantee that we will win promotion if Hall stays. Our chances will certainly be greater but there are no guarantees. On the flip side it is still my opinion that (if Brogan signs) we still have enough about ourselves going forward to get out of this division with or without Hall. Weighing everything up I won't criticise the club if they sell for £250k upwards plus a sell-on % - what cannot happen again is what happened with Gower and Peter Clarke. Lower league clubs simply can't afford to lose their most saleable assets for nothing, transfers like these can be crucial to the survival of clubs nowadays and if we cast our minds back to the state this club was in 2 years ago that point couldn't be more important.

Look at the players we have signed - Tomlin, Hurst, possibly Brogan - already have Martin on the books. Leonard can play wide right. Looks to me like he is preparing for life without Hall and has accepted this a while ago.

Keep him. Where does the money go anyway?

Far better to have the best side (assuming Hall not distracted) than the dosh dropping in to a pit never to be seen again with no apparent benefit to the club.

The highest assist tally in the whole football league and some people are willing to let him go? Lets face it, without Hall for these past 2 years, we wouldn't be the team we are today

The fact that the source of this story is SkySports makes me wonder whether there is any truth in it at all. They seem to be an outlet for agents trying to unsettle players.

Keep him, even if he goes for nothing in the end. He scores and makes goals, imo we cant afford to lose him. Agree with the above the money will be lost in the bottemless pit of dept.

That may be all it is, but the agent wont be touting him around if he wasnt looking for a move.

Whilst thats true if he wants to leave he wants to leave. No point keeping an unmotivated player in the team.

He may of course not want to move anyway.

To my knowledge this is the first report of a bid and its less than 2 weeks till the start of the season, can't see why clubs would delay bidding if they are looking to poach a player from the bottom league.

sell sell sell, the club needs money now, take the west ham game, they (west ham) basically refused to play the 2nd half due to the dangerous conditions and lets be honest on any park/pitch/ground in the land that game would have been called off, but the powers that be pleaded poverty etc, lots of staff not paid this month, local businesses not being paid, we have to sell whoever we can.
