Ukip

Declared results so far show UKIP have taken 42 seats so far. That's 35 more than the last local election and have taken 9 in Essex, that's 9 more than last time. It might well be me digging deep and adding to the Shrimperzone coffers but credit where it's due, this is a fantastic showing by us fruitcakes and loonies.

Now 74/5 councillors.I'll start to get nervous if it gets over the 100 mark.I agree-FWIW-that a protest vote of 25/26% is impressive but the point is that UKIP still doesn't have a single elected MP or control of a major county council.

Time to get nervous then as they are at 98 now.

Already seen some Tory bellend wittering on about how they are "going to listen to the people", yeah whatever.

Listen to the people and do nothing.

As I said above my main issue is the EU open border policy and Ive seen MPs openly asked what they think they should do and all the reply is stuff about non-eu immigration which isnt the problem. They clearly have no power to change it nor the will to try.

I always vote Tory, but had been considering a protest vote for UKIP in the build up to yesterday. My mind was made up for me by the Tory candidate, who in the doorway, looked affronted that I'd tried to walk past him whilst he was chatting to his Labour rival, he just pointed at the voting hall without so much as a hello and said 'in there', as if he were doing me a favour.

Mr.Charisma lost my vote, and I won't vote Tory again at local elections whilst he's standing; the arrogant mutt.

I certainly would NEVER vote for Amess & the local Southend Tories are not trustworthy either. Local labour are not people I would have trusted with my dinner money let alone a huge budget and the Liberals...........
Locally some of the independents talk sense and do appear to have genuine good intentions.

The question is can they run a country on good intentions ?

british goverments always, always blame the e.u. but as i said before,i live 1 hour from the czech border( in germany),have not seen any,any east europeons working in this area!! most german firms will only take on germans & me,coz im so good looking!! no i have lived here now 23 years,so they think im more like a german:omg:, please god no.. our small firm looked for a worker for months,no east euros, waited & took on a german. why dont brit firms do that! greed, cheap workers, more profit for the rich tw"ts,then blame the e.u .does not matter if its the prem.league ,work etc, its all money ,money money, stuff the workers, stuff what the poeple say or want..revulsion not evaluation

Actually I never thought for one minute that UKIP would gain more than 100 seats. I fancied our chances for a good few but not this many.

However, I feel that this little victory deserves a small celebration

Engaged.

Their website is running very slow, if at all when I try to load it. Can understand them getting a lot of traffic today, but if they cant run a website how will they run a country:smile:

Perhaps ShrimperZone should run the country. #mcnastyworlddomination

The trouble is that the 'open-borders' malarky is providing a convenient excuse for all of Britain's problems. As Firestorm said earlier, if British people took the jobs that the Poles or whoever else end up taking then Britain wouldn't be the popular destination for immigration that it is. Contrary to popular belief our Social Security benefits aren't that much better than those of many other countries in the EU - certainly compared to the one I live in. People come to Britain because there are jobs there.

I'm obviously biased as someone who took advantage of the freedom of movement that the EU provides. I certainly don't think that the EU is perfect and was quite the Euro-sceptic in my youth but I worry about what will happen when we leave and all of our ills are suddenly not cured.

EDIT - a protest vote is absolutely required. British politics needs a complete shake-up as right now democracy in our country is a complete sham. But the EU aren't the cause of these problems.
