Ukip

they will come unstuck in the same way that the BNP did in that they have very few real candidates and people will soon realise that they have councillors that have no idea what the position requires and no real inclination to do it. They will have had a lot of people standing that were doing so to make up the numbers. Hopefully they won't get properly found out before the next general election and it will split the right wing vote.

I read that UKIP didn't take a single seat from Labour. I suggest that if this carries over to the next election Labour will be in power as the Tory vote is split.

I think Labour have more things to worry about than that. Like being 9% down in the vote after a mid term election.

It is always difficult for any new kids on the block to compete against the very long established parties. Especially over policies --- all avenues are usually covered by the other parties so UKIP's policies will either be similar to other parties or completely radical.

A difficult scenario to achieve an awful lot in a hurry.

It'll be interesting as it does split the right wing vote as others have said.

I see the results as the usual mid term register of angst against the incumbent government but rallied around a strong message that's directly tapped into a specific area of discontent. UKIP strike me as something of a 'designer party' with a great rallying cry but little substance.

Labour will be worried that so many people were willing to vote for UKIP as an alternative.

More evidence that Miliband is totally unelectable.

They may not have taken a seat from them but they certainly took a lot votes from them. Out of the four councils Labour lost in 2009 in a mid term election they only managed to regain two of them and they were all northern councils. I would say they would have been looking at regaining all of them especially if the opinion polls were to be believed. In essence not a great night for Labour.

I have just been reading the daily Torygraph and although the editor and reporters appear to understand the disaffection of so many voters the letters, and writings by politicians, seem to display an astounding "them & us" view of current UK issues.

To be fair though he always pays up when necessary.

As Rusty can confirm (should he wish to do so) I only lost the first of three footballing bets made with him.

I'm fully expecting a similar result with respect to the first of these three political bets made recently on SZ.

Three? I remember this one and the one about UKIP not getting an MP elected in 2015 but what was the third one?

british goverments always, always blame the e.u. but as i said before,i live 1 hour from the czech border( in germany),have not seen any,any east europeons working in this area!! most german firms will only take on germans & me,coz im so good looking!! no i have lived here now 23 years,so they think im more like a german:omg:, please god no.. our small firm looked for a worker for months,no east euros, waited & took on a german. why dont brit firms do that! greed, cheap workers, more profit for the rich tw"ts,then blame the e.u .does not matter if its the prem.league ,work etc, its all money ,money money, stuff the workers, stuff what the poeple say or want..revulsion not evaluation

Isn't this against the law?
Also isn't there a very significant Turkish community in Germany ?

it may well be,but try and prove it?if a firm thinks a worker is not up to the standard he wants,he wont employ him. there are a lot of turkish-german workers here, sad to say, but a lot of "locals" dislike them..germany & germans are totally,i mean totally against turkey coming in the e.u. and what the germans say.......

I look forward to seeing you "get it wrong" again, Barna. Care to up the stakes? £50?

I think you're rather missing the point here.It was meant to be a fun bet (with the secondary intention of adding to SZ's funds).Personally, I never bet more than I can easily afford to lose.

Rusty will doubtless remember my turning down his offer to increase the stakes on our SZ bet that England wouldn't go further in the last Euros than Spain. It's only fair I extend the same courtesy to you.

(I'm sure Uncle Leo *snigger* will be quite happy to take on,in his professional capacity, any extra bets you might care to place on the 2015 GE).
