Thanks Barry for all you have done for SUFC and good luck at Cambridge sure you will do well next year . As for the reason behind the move it could be any number of things from a fresh challenge ( how can you beat going up at Wembley the way we did !! That being his last game for us ) to the security of a signing on fee for maybe the last move of his career and helping himself and his family in the future .

The key for us now is to move on and await who we are going to bring in to replace Barry and form our attack in League 1 next year Lets hope Ron is about to open the cheque book and back Phil and that it happens soon while decent players remain out of contract .. The longer it goes on the less choice we get and the thought of more financial trouble fills me with dread just after we got out of league 2 ...

He deserved a contract offer and 2 years for someone who is 30 with some injury concerns is fair whether blues or someone else. He has chosen to go and we should respect that.
TBH no way was he likely to be a top L1 goal scorer but a very useful squad player.
The heart says very sad to see him go, the head says it might end up leaving us stronger not weaker.

All the best BBBC

Southend United chairman Ron Martin left stunned after Echosport informs him of Barry

SOUTHEND United chairman Ron Martin has been left stunned by Barry Corr’s decision to join Cambridge United on a two year deal.

Why is everyone assuming the club are that bothered about this. We made Jupp and Bentley token offers when we went up from League one not expecting them to sign. All I would say here is why would Corr walk away from a chance at league one at the age of 30 unless our offer was no good.

Absolutely shocked by the news , Hope no more terrible stuff comes out like this. Barry gave us his all as far as Im concerned , and was MOM at Wembley and should properly join the Hall of fame. A player of his type and experience will be greatly missed. I believe he would have enjoyed the step up and performed accordingly. We may never know the detailed reasons , but most of us will wish him and his family every success in the future and a HUGE THANK YOU.
My worry is Browns inability in the main to know a striker from a streaker or straker.

Most people on here moan about the style of play when we have/had Barry in the team for a while now, ie hit it up to the front man and hope it sticks. Maybe this is a change of strategy from PB? I will stick my neck out and say we will start next season with :pig: and A.nother up front in a 2 up formation. I was never the type of fan to big Corr up all the time as i thought he also done alot wrong, but his commitment was never in doubt and i wish him all the best for the future. Does seem weird seeing him in that shirt though

Money? More guaranteed playing time? May have fallen out with Southend over something we don't know? Wanted a fresh challenge after being with us for 5 years? Many possible reasons.

Probably found it difficult handling all the success.........

Very disappointed with this, Bazza is as strong as an ox and would definitely have been a useful weapon in League One. Hopefully we can act swiftly in finding some strikers - I know that there's plenty of time but it would be good to get that first player in to see the calibre that PB is looking at.

Sad news Barry has left us, can only presume the club didn't want him. Wish Barry all the best, as he is the perfect journeyman and Cambridge have a great signing. I hope this is not going to another pre season of inactivity and decision making like last season !!

BBBC = Bye Bye Barry Corr

Thanks for some great memories, good luck at Cambridge - they will love ya - just don't take any penalties ;-)

He will forever be a legend here, and that's largely down to his first season where his goals kept us up.

However, this may be a blessing in disguise. Barry obviously has the 2 years, but he also probably knows his legs. He's had terrible injuries, and League One would probably be a bit more demanding. I personally thought/still think League 2 is his level like some have mentioned, and good luck to him. What a way to go out!

We now need to sign some exciting young strikers along with 2 experienced heads.

Elliot Lee, Joe Piggot, Jamie Cureton and *one more* for example would be a good start IMO.

BBBC's last moment for us.
