Terribly disappointing, but fair enough to Corr. I have to admit I was worried he would leave, but I thought after the promotion he would stay around.

We have to take his comments on face value, and if the club has not done enough to keep him then more fool them. He's been integral to the way we have played this season and that worries me. If this is the guys at the top not doing enough to keep Corr then what is PB supposed to think? If our key players start leaving because we are not doing enough to keep them how long is PB going to hang around seeing as his contract is up also? Did he think Corr signing on was nailed on and he hasn't been looking for alternatives and we're late to the party..

A few words for Corr.. he's never not given 100% for the Southend United cause and he ranks as a real cult hero. I hoped he would stay and score another 20-30 goals across the next couple of years to cement club legend status, but he's still a modern day SUFC hero. He has scored so many crucial goals for us, and I will always remember the comeback goal against Exeter. Thank you for your tremendous service to our club, you will be missed and always welcome back at Roots Hall or Fossetts Farm (haha)..

I think when Freddy & Barney (not comparing them before anyone starts) at the peak of their powers left we all knew they were going to bigger and better things, but with Corr it's the other way round, especially in terms of the division he'll be playing in. It kind of hurts.. well.. more.

Football is all about emotions, it isn't simply about winning. If we got a new owner with loads of money who got rid of everyone and replaced them with better players , but players that were moved on every 6 -12 months would you be happy- I wouldn't. Corr was (I believe) our longest serving player - we had a connection with him (I know we have Barrett but there has been a long gap and we don't know if he is staying). Who are the longest serving players now , Timlin, Prosser? Its always sad when you loose a long standing player with a real connection to the fans who gives 100%. Could he have done it in league 1? we will now never know but those writing him off are being disrespectful IMO.
Where the same fans also saying
he would never play again following that injury? proven wrong
He is always injured and will never be fit enough to be available every week /twice in week-- proven wrong
He wont score enough goals- we got promoted, he scored 16- proven wrong

absolutely right.... More money than a higher division.... That's up to him... I just hope the club just thinks 'that's a shame now let crack on!' I'm still on a high from Wembley and Corr leaving isn't going to stop that. The king is dead, long live the king!

Not really surprised at all. Never good enough for league one regular football, but always warmly remembered as a cult league two hero. Not sure anyone can hold him anywhere near the likes of benji, Stanley, Freddy, Barney etc in terms of ability, but made his mark with us.

with Barney and Corr moved off the wage books and Cassidy/piggott back at their patent clubs, I think we should be really looking forward to the players we'll be linked with this summer and who we'll end up with. There is at least 2/3 strikers who will be joining us and I think that is something to be excited about.

thanks for the goals and good luck in your new challenge, Bazza!

18 pages and some truly OTT comments. Why couldn't contracts be sorted earlier? Well, that may really have depended a lot on which division we were going to be in. Why shouldn't the CEO go on holiday now? The poor man does have a family and it was half term last week, they sacrifice enough during the season, for goodness sake let them have a holiday! Hall of Fame? Do me a favour!!!

Why do people think Corr owed us something? I saw a few comments from people saying we stood by him....he was under contract and providing us with a useful service in scouting as I recall, so he was still working for the club even if he wasn't playing at the time. He's had one contract extension during his 5 years, which would still have been on L2 money. At his time of life and playing with the amount of fitness issues as have been well documented this season, can anyone seriously say they are surprised at him going somewhere he is offered more than we offered him? I think he's probably a lot more realistic than others, and realises L2 is his level at this time. He frustrated me terribly with his almost constant Discussing to refs when he felt hard done by, when what he should have done was buckle down and get on with it.

I am grateful to Barry for all he did give in his 5 years here, and for being a lovely bloke whenever we had any events off the pitch. I will forever remember MTBD his 2nd season when one of our dear supporters cornered him to show him the piece of music he'd hand written for him! Barry was a gent about it, but thankful once we got the bloke moved on!

Goodbye and good luck Barry Corr, except if you come up against us!

I think it is just football - and time for both player and club to move on.
I was never a huge BBBC fan but have to say he fought tremendously for our club and especially in the latter part of the season just finished.
What I will remember is BBBC having an absolute nightmare in the 2nd leg against Stevenage but continuing to battle. He would not have scored if he had played until Christmas but he never hid - he just worked his socks off.
Best wishes to Barry Corr.

Probably the most sensible response regarding BC,Well said OBL.

The media department at the club is truly shocking. No mention on the OS about (in my opinion) one of our star players moving on after 5 years service to the club and yet info. about Season Cards :hilarious:

Oh well, life goes on and the club will move on as well. Good luck Barry and all the best.

Sad and surprised to see BBBC going. I think he could have been a useful player for us in L1, but I guess he would have been spending a lot of time on the subs bench. I hope and believe that we will be bringing in better replacements but they will have to go some to have a heart as big as Barry's.

Thanks for all the good times and good luck at Cambridge.

Now let's move on and sign some strong strikers please.......

Was truly shocked when I heard this news. As others have said above its the biggest blow in terms of player departures that I can remember for a long time. For me if you have a few players in your team that bleed blue and white for the cause it can have a massive effect on the overall performance of the team. We were pretty lucky to have 2 at the end of last season. If Adam Barrett hangs up his boots this summer we'll have lost them both.

That's the emotional side of it out of the way. When you look at the black and white of it there are positives and negatives with this news. The positives include the timing of it all: it's very early in the summer so at least we have pretty much the whole transfer window to find a replacement.

Barry Corr is a very good striker at League 2 level but question marks arise over whether he could do it in League One? If we did need to double his wages to keep him then maybe it is best he moved on. Chances that he missed in the playoff games need to be taken more often the higher you play.

I also think we can now look to switch systems and maybe get a pair of strikers that work as a partnership like when we had Britt and Tomlin up top.

Personally I'd have liked Barry to stay and see how he fared in League One. As others have said, with the momentum of our promotion we could surprise a few people next season and he might have scored more than we all thought. Who knows?

Let's face it though we've all left jobs that we loved for more money or better career prospects and sadly this is just another example of that.

Best of luck Barry and thanks for the memories

P.S - I'm truly gutted

To be fair it was announced at 6pm, they'd probably just stopped working, and if RM knew nothing about it I doubt they did either. Mind you, bit lazy not to try to chase up a tiny bit of info just to put a very short statement out, but I get the impression that the current guy treats it as a 9-5 (or whatever his hours are) job and avoids doing anything outside that time if at all possible, which is fair enough but sometimes not possible in these media roles in the days of social media.

They put something out on twitter I think.

The Echo are on it though and it's 10am the following day and still nothing on the OS. I know it makes no difference as we are all aware that he has gone, it just seems lazy and well, a bit strange.

What about Timlin? He did bleed for the cause, literally...

Yep, terrible. If you click on the players, we still have Mads, Conor and Barney in our squad. 'Breaking news' will be very old news concerning Barry Corr, when they finally put it up.

They put something out last night, well outside of 9-5

Good luck to the lad great passion for the game, would he do well in league 1 not so sure but would loved to have seen him in a Southend shirt next season giving it a go, not really surprised he's gone but surprised he didn't go to Portsmouth as reports suggest they was interested.
sounds like himself and Phil brown didn't clicked , but hey not everyone can get on in life good luck bazza and thanks for the effort and goals.
