Euro 2016

Sterling missed that sitter against Wales. Everything else we created with Kane on the field was a set piece. Rooney had shots against Russia from the edge of the box.

Barney Ronay described it well when he talked about England having lots of passes without ever picking a pass and running a lot without any movement.

I think back to the Russia game and counted atleast 3 balls across the face of goal that needed that bit more pace to get a touch on to put them away. Something I think Vardy would've got to but Kane didn't. That little bit more pace.

I have no idea who England could meet it they qualify from their group, but having just seen the first half of Iceland v Hungary, please let it not be the Icelandics. They are that sort of side that could ruin our chances.

Let's be positive and assume we win the group. We would then play the third placed team from Group A, C or D.

Come on now. They're hard working and organised, but the last 30 minutes of that Hungary game showed that we shouldn't have anything to fear from Iceland. They're a bit cumbersome going forward and the 'keeper looks extremely suspect. There are much better teams we could end up facing in the second round - Norn Iron in particular.

now you see, if I had posted soon after full time I would have agreed with you. But you know what it's like when you post on the spur of the moment. It's a bit like saying Southend should score a hatful in the second half.

Ah, I remember those days, back in err, hmm............ Bart!!!!

Portugal look a terrible side. Nani definitely isn't a striker and Ronaldo constantly looks frustrated at the complete lack of any sort of decent service. Would like to think we would give these lot a good pasting if we end up facing them!

Not sure I agree. Austria may be no world beaters but 23 chances tonight and a missed penalty suggests Portugal were damn unlucky. Ronaldo particularly had a nightmare but I like to think that Rooney is in a hotel room in France somewhere winking furiously. Yes you read that correctly.

As it Seem's (god willing) we are going through to the next round, I Would like to see a Vardy & Kane up-front with Rooney sitting in the the tip of the diamond, and attacking wingers on each side.

there's no balance to that, it would be madness to only have Dier in midfield against 5 from the other team would be madness. for one thing how would all these attacking players get the ball?

no, you can play a diamond or have wingers but not both.

for me i'd rather play with wingers and i think this is where we regret having Barkley in the squad because we could have given that place to a winger and had an option but now we have others for his position but not enough wide options

You must have been going for a leek or getting a coffee the 3 times Lallana only had the goalkeeper to beat and shot straightat him versus Russia, has for Wales i lost count of the times the ball when centred was just inches away from an oncoming player.Admit it Beefy you just hate the thought of England playing well when managed by Dorothy the Dinosaur.

With two rounds played Spain do look the team to beat, though their next game will give a clearer indication of how much better they are than the field.

I'm a bit surprised that Poland haven't been given more credit, and can still be backed at 40s. 1-0 flattered NI massively, and the Germans were also clearly second best in terms of actual chances created for my money.

It's noticeable how close most of the games have been so far - I think Spain's win over Turkey was the first win by more than two goals. UEFA was criticised for expanding the tournament to 24 teams but so far the smaller nations are holding their own against the more established teams.

Belgium whooped the Irish yesterday aswell.

I know what you meant, and it's laughable because it's verging on a conspiracy theory. The Germans and the Poles aren't going to sit back and think we both only need a draw. Apart from anything historical, professional pride wouldn't allow that. The fact is they played badly, and were woefully inadequate, something you would have pointed out should it have been England, especially as you cited the Germans performance after I asked you whether or not you thought England played well.

(I'm still waiting for a reply to a follow up question on that discussion, by the

Do you remember the 82 world cup....Germany V Austria..dont like each other..historical.

Germans KNOW how to win...and they dont give a ???? , as they say..the only name on the cup is the WINNER...not how they won it
