That's not an idea though, it's just acknowledging that some people are selfish. It'd be like saying if people stop committing crimes then our police force wouldn't be underfunded, it might be true but there's no way of actually stopping people from doing it. People committing crimes already know they're being selfish, pointing it out them won't make them stop. You have to account for selfishness when you're rolling out something like this. I agree people getting verbally abused is a risk but that's why I'd want to make clear to people booking at the end of the day that there's a risk they won't be seen.

And you know everyone's situation for not turning up? Lord give me strength (shakes head).

I never said everyone that isn't turning up had no valid reason. The person I replied to was talking about those that don't which is why I focused on that subgroup in my reply. For what's it worth I agree with you that some people that don't show up have valid reasons (and I'd be against fining people that don't show up for that very reason). Despite your aggressive insistence to the contrary I'm not looking to shame people taking advantage of the current system. As I said if this is what doctors are currently doing then it's better that the vaccine goes to someone that shows up hoping to be lucky than for it to go in the bin. All I'm saying is that if we overbooked we could get through the list of people that really need the vaccine faster and that can hopefully help us stem the flow of deaths quicker.

In terms of overbooking though does it matter what the reason is? Whatever the reason they don't turn up it means there's a vaccine going to waste that could have been given to someone if they overbooked but made sure people near the end of the queue knew they were on the standby list and might not be seen.

You're becoming a bore mate. There is a tier system in place not a free for all. I'm in tier 6 and has to wait my turn like everyone else. Do you stand in a queue or push to the front? Same principle, your going to get the hump if that happens too often in front of you.

So tell me, have you had your jab yet or are you happy for everyone to push you further to the back of the queue?

If being kind is a bore then so be it.

I'm 45 so I'm way down the list for the vaccine and have had Covid and felt very poorly for months.

I tell you what, if I get a letter, text or phone call to attend a vaccine centre, I'm happy to change that for you, that's the person I am, if I can help others, then I will.

I'm not angry and am happy for spare shots of the vaccine being used but not when people are asking to jump the queue so early in the day.
Yes, I am a bit angry.
A mate, in his 60s, has stage2 maybe 3 now, bowel cancer, delays means Southend can't operate and he now has to go to a London specialist hospital.
He is isolating, shi t scared and would dig his own left eye out for the safety of a jab.
It begs the question for me why fit and able folks aren't going to other places: and the hospitals maybe getting their lists of such patients "done" pdq?
If I had mine before my mate I would be, rightly, ashamed.

I'm sure your mate has probably done this already, but if he wrote to his gp or emailed the practice manager I'm sure they would bump him up the list.

We had another successful day today with over 600 people vaccinated and everyone one of them was called in by the surgery and we again wasted zero vaccines.
Within the last 10 mins of the day 4 people never showed however as I have said before we keep a “reserve - last minute to get here list” and we called from that. Included on the list are our most vulnerable and also front line/essential workers.

The AstraZeneca vaccine is the easiest to administer and the “shelf” life is so much better than than the Pfizer one.
With the Pfizer we have to be so careful on how it is transported and we only get 6 hours to use it once it comes out of the fridge or if it goes above a certain temperature it has to be discarded - so there is potential for waste. Also with this one you cannot shake it or move it around.
As a vaccinator I personally prefer the AstarZeneca

This is a very powerful watch from inside the COVID wards. It may be upsetting to some.

Absolutely awful to have passed the hundred thousand death mark.
All those poor families and friends that have lost people to this awful virus.
Indeed, each one someone with a story to tell, life to live, friends and family and loved ones who likely weren't able to be with them at the end. So so tragic and awful.

Seeing the videos of protests outside hospitals made me so angry. By sheer luck, they are outside the hospital protesting, and not inside slowly suffocating.

What about the 1000's of families who know their loved ones did not die of Covid and have fought to have it removed from the death certificate
I am not in favour of covid being removed from the death certificate where obvious prior health conditions contributed largely to the death. The other causes need counting too.
The understanding of the toll on the nations health is important and heart, cancer and other ailments need recording.
The death toll is horrendous and understanding WHY it has become so high in the UK is vital to get to fix the causes.
Yes, too many people are obese, too many are inactive, too many smoke etc, too many have poor diets. Is poverty a big factor?
Unless the stats are understood and can be acted on and educated from then it is a sad sad count for no purpose.

It becoming clear that the health of our nation is playing a big part in this. Even boris admitted that his weight played a major factor in him getting so ill. I would imagine he is type 2 diabetic, with an ever growing part of our population. I hope in the future that this is something the country can address

Type 2 diabetes can occur because of heriditary reasons rather than just based on your weight /BMI.For example our father was a diabetic. My younger brother (not RobNoxious but the other one)was diagnosed as a diabetic at 46.Despite being two years older I first developed it at 50.

True, but other risk factors can bring it too. Ones that can be controlled as well such as diet, alcohol consumption, high blood pressure etc etc. Most people know these things but make their own choices about their lifestyle

I am 60 was told I had type 2 diabetes in August ,now on tablets, I’ve lost 55 pounds in weight , still have 15 pounds to go, when I went for blood test in Dec was told I had dramatically reduced the risk, and had a reduction in tablets. It’s an on going battle but with good diet, exercise and realising it can be tackled it can be done
Running a 100 k a month now and feel like a new man
