Protesting wont make any difference

Other than a Phoenix Club at a completely unknown ground please can someone tell me what the alternative is?

The only reason Ron is here is to finally turn a profit on all the mortgaged debt. Quite frankly the only reason we are here is because Ron still is.

Unpalatable but reality.

One aspect of the Basildon protests rings true today. The council couldn’t give a **** about SUFC.

But do you think a protest at the ground will achieve anything? I doubt anyone believes Ron’s pipe dreams - I just don’t think chanting at a game will changing anything as he won’t decide to walk away from his millions just because some disgruntled fans demand it. If the aim is o force him out surely something more strategic is needed?
I guess their only 3 options......

1, protest with the hope of forcing change at the top.
2, stay patient with the hope Ron get planning so the club will finally moves to FF and Ron gets his pay day.
3, Reforming as phoenix club.

Lot of what your saying is right. Chanting from the stands probably won't make difference. Yes I agree I can't see Ron just walking away if his potential pay day is round the corner, he come this far so he will just look to ride it out until he gets his payday, admittedly he hardly getting any younger.

Option 1 and 2 are looking unlikely as the weeks go on. Maybe option 3 is the only realistic way forward..... the way we are heading it's probably going to happen quicker than maybe fans think.

1 thing I do know is property developers and football clubs don't mix.

i make you absolutely right. The trouble is they all require a different action from the fans to try to bring it about.

1. requires concerted overt demonstrations. The thing is option 1 is the least likely and probably most counterproductive. I think it might feel good to fans to be doing something, and satisfy a primal instinct, but it will have zero impact on change (in my opinion - I’d welcome a contrary view) and will simply create a toxic atmosphere and probably adversely effect results in the pitch.

2. number 2 would actually involve fans backing Ron, lobbying the council on his behalf, backing the team to try to improve results etc. Ron gets stadium built and moves on. My problem with this is (putting aside whether stadium will ever get built) is that where does it leave us- in a 3 sided soulless ground paying whatever rent The Ron Martin family want to charge us and whilst his companies benefit from the 7 day a week revenue at Fossets. We will be a club with no ground / assets in perpetuity…..

3. would involve a boycott - to make whole thing unviable - effectively euthanising the club we love with a view of starting again. As I posted in another thread- we are now so low that the chances are with a well operated Phoenix club we would be within one or two tiers of where we are now within 10 years but have full ownership and control of destiny. Has any of the clubs that have gone bust been at the control of the fans? I suspect not but would welcome being out right on that.

maybe there is a 4th option - the opposite of 2- we do everything in powers to ensure council doesn’t pass the new stadium so the club can’t move and Ron can’t get his dream? Would this mean him more likely to walk away than shouts from the stands? (I appreciate without financial backing it would likely leave us at option 3 above but seems more of a palatable way to get there….)…..

If you don't think it'll make any difference then don't go its simple its better that than bad mouthing it on here.

if anything it'll give Ron the message he is not wanted here after his dream is finally here and perhaps advertise to potential buyers.
I'm not! Not going to make any difference what so ever!

Why would a boycott mean having to start the club again? The way I see it is Ron would get so annoyed and ****ed off at no supporters turning up and worried about how he's going to pay his staff and the players. He would be forced to sell the club! and the buyer can just carry on with sufc in the national league! There would be no need for administration and no points deducted! No need for a phoenix club!!

Maybe, I hope there are people more in the know than me as to how that would play out. I guess the concern would be Ron would still want considerable money to walk away (unless the stadium and club ownership were split) and there would be no takers - or Ron decides that the club isn’t worth propping up anymore and can go bust - he then has freedom to do what he wants at Roots hall (based on my assumption that the ‘covenant’ would be released…) …. So the boycott route would need to factor in the possible need for a Phoenix club?

either way, a boycott would seem better than a protest.

not a dig, but aren’t the Trust going to have better knowledge of these things and be giving some direction to the fans - or is that not their remit / expectation?

Silly Question, but has there been any bidders to buy the club from Ron ?
There was a consortium a few years back who were represented by a local well known solicitor (with previous club connections) and a fan.
It's only an option if it's up for sale? Can't see Ron selling tbh.
Holding out for the payday at whatever cost! Covenant a stumbling block thankfully would be my guess.

How is that done with the Club already owing him 15 to 20 Million?

Clever man, Racked up all his personel debts, like legal fees fighting the council / tax man , over the years on the clubs good name.

Southend United FC name is stuffed like a Christmas turkey sadly

Only option , We all got to hope the council wake up and fast track the build or its good night Vienna

Good news is we all can come Man City fans if we fold

Firstly, boycotts have been talked about before on several occasions and whenever one actually happens, a few hundred take part. Doesn't change anything apart from make those involved feel better as they then think they are actively doing something, but in reality Ron will have to die before he loses control or sells .If fans didn't turn up. it would cost Ron a bit more on a monthly basis. That's all.

Secondly - and this is the big flaw in your argument - you assume there will be a buyer to take on a National League Club with £15-20 million debt that is going to cost that again over not many years going forwards and where there is no prospect of a return,. Ron is simply not - under any circumstances - going to give up the money coming from the housing developments at RH and FF. That's what it is all about!

Forget anyone buying - there's nothing to sell.

In short people, we are royally screwed until FF goes through.

What I would be genuinely interested in is how does FF going through actually help us? How does that play out so that our situation is improved?

We will still be saddled with £15-20 million of debt. We will be tenants in a 3 sided stadium paying whatever rent the owners demand. We will not be able to grow or make any income other than on match days.

Ok.

Firstly, Ron will still be the landlord but has stated that the club would remain there on the same terms as now, i.e. with deferred rent as long as he owns the club. There will also be income streams coming to the club (but I'm not sure what).

Now - this 3 sided ground stuff. It is a complete myth that he wants to build a 3 sided stadium. He doesn't and I wish people would actually remember why the 3 sided stadium was ever mentioned at all.

It is because at one stage, it was impossible to build all four at once due to the main sponsors and businesses involved with the main stand pulling out.

In an effort to try and get the thing going, Ron asked for permission for the club to building 3 sides first with a 4th to follow asap, but certainly within 5 years(I think).

The council - in making their decision - had to consider what would happen if it got to 5 years and the 4th one had not been built. What was the remedy? Knock the stadium down? Of course not, so they then had to consider whether they could give permission for a 3 sided stadium if that's all it was ever going to be.

They decided they could. So there were are.

That is a world of difference from Ron wanting a 3 sided stadium bearing in mind the 4th one was probably going to generate the most income for him.

Now - I must admit I am not fully up to date with the current plans but unless there has been a change of plan and the plans are now ONLY for a 3 sided ground - and please shoot me down if they are - then I don't believe it will be 3 sided for long.

Finally Ron isn't going to built a huge white elephant of a stadium and just leave a club in there to rot. Think about it.

We all have our answer.... over 3,000 loyal supporters were prepared to part with their very hard earned wages to buy a season ticket ?‍♂️

I am not digging at anyone as I totally understand why and my decision not to return to Roots Hall hurt so much but it's my way of saying "enough is enough"

Everyone has to do what they feel is right but while we are still getting 5 or 6,000 supporters turning up to watch non league football Uncle Ron will have a very sly smirk on his face and keep taking your money & the p!$s out of all of us and put it in the FF slush fund to replace the spade he put it the ground 5 years ago that has now rusted away ?‍♂️
