I'm at a loss to Ron's thinking here. Stan has taken so much heat off of him which will surely come back on and to palm him off makes me think Ron's of wanting the best for the club is an act. I think Ron fears the transparency that Stan wants to bring,
I suspect Ron fears Stan taking all the credit and potential issues along the road if they fall out.

It's striking we haven't heard much from Tom/Ron/Gary on the interview process etc - it's all come from Stan - and there is a danger of 'too much transparency'.

But it probably is as Stan says, the club want him doing perhaps a smaller role for less money than he is hoping for.

This is the problem with having a running commentary on the situation nothing is finalised yet and the deal/appointment is not dead. I get the need for openness but we do have to remain professional in business and I think the club are worried this is turning into a circus.

Nobody needs to get deflated or anything at the moment.

COULDHAVE SAID MANY THINGS ,COULD HAVE SAID NOTHING , COULD HAVE LIED TO US , BUT KEPT HIS PROMISE TO BE OPEN AND HONEST TO US ,I RESPECT HIM FOR THAT ,MORE TRUST GAINED
Was he actually open and honest last night? He gave the impression that it was almost certain he would be announced today but it seems that was before discussing hardly trivial things like responsibilities and remuneration. It's suggested it was a tactical move on his part perhaps but that's not conducive to uniting the fans for tomorrow's game. I would dearly like Stan involved but not at any price and not if his role overrides the responsibilities of other members of the management team. However I really hope that next week's discussions will come to a positive conclusion as he would be a great asset to the club. I also hope that this doesn't detract from 100% support for the team tomorrow..

It's been a circus with Martin the Clown at the head for years. I hate that man.

I seem to remember the interview with Stan on BBC essex after the chesterfield game stating that he would work for free and when viable financially they could sit down and talk about remuneration - i think Ron was probably thinking maybe 6 months down the line when they started seeing the fruits of Stans labour..not a couple of weeks later...

Also listening to Kev Maher interview he said that he asked for Darren Currie and Mark bentley as his team - so did Stan really give the club these other two people or did Kev ask to bring them in?!

a few unclear points for me

whats more on reflection of last nights 2 and a half hours zoom call (which i listened to the whole of it) there were a couple of times where i felt (you may disagree with me on this) where it felt like Stan was running the club and was bringing in Tom as and when it suited Stan - Stan has a very strong personality and i think h may have rubbed TL and RM up slightly the wrong way - Maybe RM thinks that Stan will ant his fingers in every pie and that may scare RM.. i could see a full blown argument between Ron and stan at some point

im not quashing stan, i think some of what he says is GREAT i just wonder hat he wants financially and the roles he plays compared to where TL and Ron see his services and money best spent...

Was really excited last night but part expected this. Am confident Tom and Stan will negotiate this to a point that they can either agree or be professional in walking away if an agreement can’t be reached that both think is right.

As others have said we have only heard one version from Stan (which is very professionally stated) but Tom’s style isn’t to go public on these types of issues and until further talks happen we shouldn’t make any assumptions about who is in the wrong (if anyone).

And for those trashing Ron, he is payrolling this and we don’t know what Stan’s demands are - he could want a role that runs everything and a salary of £5m. Whilst I exaggerate and really want Stan on board I’m not footing the bill or owning the club and Tom might need to persuade him to find more cash if it’s beyond the budget.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome next week.

I'm a bit disappointed. Stan has walked the talk and has done all he said he'd do. As we know however, the next chapter will be when Kevin Maher has looked at the squad and said no to some, a maybe to others and a definite yes to a few. I'm also waiting to see what he can do with a couple of players that I think could become big big players for us with the right approach. I personally want Stan about for the next chapter as I think our recruitment may be better than in the past.

However we will need remember the club has its biggest match on Monday. Ron must be fully focused on this. We've criticised him for trying to ride 2 horses before. The right result there might tip the balance and negotiations which are not dead can resume.

Personally feel the coaching staff brought in is the most important thing. We never had these other roles when Tilly and Brush were in charge, I'm not sure we need them now. Surely, between them Maher Benno and Currie can find and recruit players, as opposed to having players fostered upon them? They know this league, theykll have local contacts and contacts from the EFL.

Quite. Normally these things seem to have gone smoothly as the first thing we hear is an announcement. This is very significant change for the club, and would be a very significant role. It would and should always involve a lot of discussion, differences, addressing those differences that normally we would never see. Far be it from me to make the outrageous suggestion that the Zone is ever so slightly prone to over reaction. But lets assume that between them with their relationship Tom and Stan won't snatch defeat from the jaws of victory..

As I have continually said time and time again the Issue is Ron Martin!
He needs to walk away, just go!
He is the problem, you could put Jurgen Klopp in charge and still the problem would be there , no money, no logic, transfer embargo, HMRC taking us to court and so on.
With King Canute sitting on his throne down Southend sea front telling us all the tide will turn and "we will not get relegated" ( how many times has he got that one wrong.
The demos need to continue until Mr Martin goes!

Another thing to bear in mind is we always somehow think football clubs must be paying huge wages all round. I suspect Tom isn't on what many might suspect. The football club is a small business with a turnover of £7.5m in the last accounts. In the real world the CEO of a small £7.5m business would be lucky to be getting £100k a year. That's the CEO.

This is a £7.5m turnover business losing £2.5m a year!!! And that is pre-COVID

However does he make ends meet?

Surely this is part and parcel of any job negotiations?

I think two elements concern me though

  1. Assumption from my point of view is this is a structure recommended and implemented under Stans guidance. Without him involved who finishes the build out of this?
  2. If Stan does walk away then we do not have a “Director of Football Operations” immediately to hand and I assume with just a Head Coach and not a manager that means we have a gap in responsibilities that requires immediately plugging?
