Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 2-1 Darlington F.A Trophy

Blondy - 7 - some fantastic saves and brave moments today. Kicking still pretty poor but a much improved performance!

Demetriou - 7 - solid enough game
Kensdale - 7 - played well, some nice runs forwards. Couple of wayward long balls.
Lopata - 7 - similar comments to Kensdale, played well.
Ralph - 6 - thought he was a little weaker today. Would have liked to see a little more going forward from him.

Husin - 6 - plenty of energy, would have liked him to be a little more positive in possession.
Miley - 6 - done pretty well, similar to Husin - I’d like our midfield to create more chances in general.
Bridge - 9 - our main attacking threat as always. Looks like creating something everytime he has the ball. We need to get the ball to him quicker!
Taylor - 6 - done okay, got stuck in and played some good balls.

Powell - 4 - Mr. Invisible. Looked disinterested, didn’t have his usual energy and missed another decent chance. Not sure he’s what we need up there to be honest.
Cardwell - 8 - put himself about, had some great chances with two goals… can’t ask much more from a forward.

Subs - nothing massive to mention aside from being good to see Murphy and Hyde getting some minutes. Thought Murphy looked sharp.

Ref - 2 - some atrocious decisions for both teams. Blatant throw ins given the wrong way all afternoon and had zero control of the game.

Agree with the Powell comment, buzzes around like angry ant but final product a League below...name your price Darlo.
Oh for a Jack bridge supply line both sides!

Must be very rare in any game to hit the post 4 times, I wonder whether we have ever done that before and what the UK or our record might be. I know Liverpool hit the post 27 times during season 2013-14 . Couple of years ago Evesham United lost 2 -1 to Yate Town but hit the post SIX times
Yet again on another day we could have had 5. Someone is going to take a hammering from us before the season is out ?

A game that sticks in my memory was in September 1977 - a long time ago. Our 9th League game of the season, we had won 6 and drawn 2 - had won all 4 away games and were away at Doncaster at their old Belle Vue ground on a Tuesday night. We absolutely pulverised them and lost 2-0. What I remember is that the flying pig, Alan Foggan, hit the woodwork 4 times himself - it just wouldn’t go in. Their second goal was in the last minute and I just couldn’t believe it. I’d been sitting very quietly in their main stand and let out my frustration …..nearest I’d ever come to a sticky end at a game….
