Post-Match Thread and Ratings Southend United 0 - 1 Barnet

Have to wait and see what the situation regarding Lopata is but I’m with Kev on this one until proven wrong.

Fantastic turn out tonight and we live to fight another day.

Neither side really looked liked scoring TBH but hats off to Blondie he had a stormer. Awkward night in the dressing which didn’t help but f..k it move on.

Injuries to key players are costing us. Thanks to RM we can't bring in any loanees, Kevin Maher sounds really frustrated in his after match interview. Teams like Sutton got promoted from this division by being shrewd in the loan market. Ron Martin is destroying this club, the coaching staff are doing wonders with their hands tied. Barnet deserved their win tonight, we lack a cutting edge, crosses come in but our non scoring midfielders don't gamble and make runs to get on the end of them. We really need more goals from this area and we also need the central defenders to get on the end of corners and free kicks. Hopefully we can get some of the injured back on Tuesday and take three points off Chesterfield.

Barnet came with a game plan.

Soak up pressure and hit us on the counter. Their big striker was a handful and IMHO they deserved the win.

They got through on goal 3 or 4 times and could have been out of sight.

We have a massive collection of crocks up top. Send Hyde back. Murphy is done and Cardwell is a good player that is constantly injured. I still like the look of Wreh but Powell isn't the answer.

We could literally need to lose 3 or 4 up top and replace them all. It's our downfall, but while we remain under an embargo it ain't gonna happen.

Their big bald defender was fantastic tonight. Won every single battle.

As for Barnet. They are not a good side but didn't need to be tonight.

If the rumours of Kacper are true then he is finished. No place for that at the club. I didn't expect that from him at all.

We move on and have two very tough games next week.
Remember how he started on Blondy….thought he was more to blame as well….showed off then and probably has again. How we got him to sign was amazing but unfortunately he won’t progress being involved with a club run by Ron Martin and unfortunately his ability is being wasted here at the moment!

From Chris Phillips twitter - Sandat is not that quick - Kanu, who is quick, could have intercepted - so not a clear red.

It was shown a few times on the steam …

I realise that we lost and therefore the comments on here are going to be negative but I actually thought we were the better side for large parts of that game. Barnet were another of those huge horrible sides. Little football ability but huge amounts of pulling, pushing, diving, holding and general gamesmanship.

When Sandat went clean through he was clearly brought down. Definite red. Nope a yellow! Would have been a game changer. Summed up another dreadful referee performance.

As others have stated though we have no real goal threat. For all our dominance on the ball we rarely threaten. If we had a 20 goal striker we would have finished Barnet off early.

Final comment. Lopata. Sorry son, I’m hugely disappointed in you. So long, farewell.

Not match related, but... Would Lopata go to Notts after Brunt's experience there last season?

I bet Sheff Utd are raging as well - surely they had a huge sell on clause...
Hopefully if he ends up at Wrexham or notts county the team he goes to stays down in this league. Be even better if we beat them in the play off final.

Sorry but I was in line with this, unlike the linesman, and the kid is clean through on goal and pulled down. Definitely a red. Picture is deceptive as he’s already down so of course others are behind him then.

Have to disagree with you there. Sandat was a handful and drew the Barnet players into fouls numerous times. Was through on goal when pulled down by the last man which should have been a red card.
Played a delightful ball out to Scott-Morriss on 35 mins that was a pleasure to watch

And that's what football is about, opinions and I respect yours.

But you have probably listed 90% of the telling parts of his game tonight in that sentence, which is not good enough in 90 minutes. whatever the age of the player. if you are selected you are good enough whatever your age, and he wasn't good enough tonight in a team that sadly wasn't good enough.

My opinion is on this game and this game alone. So there was no receive the ball, pass and go, draw free kicks on the edge of the box within shooting range, work the channels or look for a return ball, which is a basic tactic when playing against a defence bigger and slower than you, and only three shots on target. But for all the above he contributed far more than runaraound and fall over Powell, which is why I gave him a higher mark and said he will improve, because there is obvious talent there. Tonight will be a night with lessons for him and if he puts the experience into practice will improve without a doubt, which can only be good for us whilst he plays in the Blue shirt.

I know you won't agree with the above, but that's my counter opinion which I hope you also respect.

We were the better footballing side tonight but couldn’t match their physicality, thought Diarra for them was a mountain at the back , I’d have him playing for us any day of the week .

Missing some key players but it does feel like we were beaten by a typical away team performance
