Rayleigh Weir
Not just a roundabout⭐⭐🦐
As per an off-hand comment in a thread yesterday - I thought I'd sound out the Shrimperzone faithful for how far we're all willing to sacrifice our musical integrity for the loves of our lives...
Basically, I'm of an age now where I seem to get invited to shedloads of weddings, and I'm constantly fascinated by peoples choice of 'first dance song'. Invariably this shows far more of a female influence, and I'd imagine that the vast majority of them are chosen by the bride with varying degrees of veto allowed to the groom.
For my wedding we chose the Stereophonics and Jools Holland cover of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" for our slushy first dance, followed by "Smooth" by Santana and Rob Thomas. The first song has some beautiful luvvy lyrics sung by an (as then) up and coming indie band which was nicely in line with both my wife and I's music tastes, the second allowed us to put in a choreographed salsa number (my wife is a dancer/choreographer). I was also allowed to choose Ben Harper's "Not Fire, Not Ice" as the closing song - but then being a Weir family wedding everyone was too p!ssed to care by that point...
So, my question is - how far did (or would) you allow your own musical tastes and prejudices to affect her perfect day? Or, to put it simply - what did (would) you have as your first song and why?
