I still get strangely obsessed with the allocation of squad numbers... Whilst they don't hold the same association with playing position that they did decades ago, there's still a bit of prestige in being given a 1 - 11 jersey, I think. Although, there's not many images more iconic than Freddy in a number 23 shirt - it will be interesting to see is Mr Barker changes squad number this season.

like he said, need a keeper maybe 2 midfielders or 1, but i feel our defence is too small with 6, if 2 get injured, one off form or even 3 injured (come on, we are southend utd it could happen), we do not have enough cover and those defenders will nedd subbing from time to time and what if we do not have anyone to replace them?

I disagree, I think we're covered. We've got 7 in total with prosser covering two positions. We've got 2 at lb, 4 cb and 2 rb. Definitely enough, we can loan if required.

Can't be necessity as Clohessy hardly missed a game last season, and I'd say Leonard would be a more than able deputy. Experiment I think.

The necessity reference was for the friendlies, having no-one else really to put there. Agreed Leonard was originally brought here as a right back but now plays his games more forward, as Clohessey is an ever present.

To be fair, allbeit against poor opposition, Woodyard looked like RB was his natural position so may be used this season as backup for Clohessy instead of Leonard

Perhaps I've been spending too much time on Shrimperzone, but when I look at the squad now, it has a lot of question marks about it. Get everyone fit (a big question mark in itself) and there's a competitive team but the strength in depth is debatable

We need another central midfielder now - arguably two.

With the daft transfer window closed, this would suggest loan players - but am I right in thinking that unattached players can be signed at any point during the season?

Pity we do not have reserve games for players to trial in - along with allowing players such as Barry Corr get some vital pitch time on the road to recovery.

With Hall likely to depart shortly. I would say a CM (Preferably 2) and a winger as a bare minimum needed in the loan window.

We need a minimum squad of 22 players that we can actually rely on to play IMO, not players like Woodyard and Coughlan (only due to age, otherwise a brilliant CB).
