2022-23 Southend United Retained / Released List

Absolutely brilliant, and although ruthless, the best way to get the club climbing a League or Two. In the past we have been too soft, and kept players in the squad who were never going to be starting a lot of games. A lot will be replaced by better players. Players that are good enough for the first team. It will be a real competition to keep your place in the team. This has given us even more confidence that this club means business. I can't wait for the new signings. I can't wait for the promotion push.

Glad it’s been released only one I’d of kept it Atkinson thought he’s been brilliant this year . Although has dropped off last 4/5 games

Many are mentioning Leon Davies and I feel the same that its a shame he left, but maybe it was a mutual decision.

Maybe we couldn't offer exactly what he was after in terms of a constant starting position.

Whatever the reason, I am sure it was all decided on good terms dealing with the 3 amigos.
I agree interms of davis..... the few times I saw him play, considering he wasn't playing in his natural position. I thought he was decent and didn't put foot wrong tbf. I'm sure he will get another club either league 2 or national league.

I don't think Atkinson could have done much more to earn a contract, so I feel for him. I think it is probably his age and inevitable decline to come that went against him. I can think of numerous times we have kept a player a year or 2 too long so can undestand it. I'm pretty sure we will have an alternative lined up too. Hope he gets a decent contract elsewhere. On last seasons performances he can definitely do a job for someone in this division

A couple of surprises but no one I'd be too sorry to see go in all honesty.

Leon Davis looked promising at times but far too negative most of the time. Didn't progress enough under the 3 amigos to be kept on.

Sorry to see Atko go, his workrate was legendry, but time was up for the new regimen.

Farewell to John White, always reliable more than spectacular, again time against him.

Big clearout was definitely required and now delivered.

Looking forward to the new recruits being announced ASAP

Viva la kevolution!

Like many I was surprised about Davies but can't really argue with any of the other departures. Being a bit of a softie it's sad to see the likes of Egbri, Gard, ANG and Akinola let go but for the first time in a long time I have 100% confidence in the management/recruiting team bringing in new and exciting talent for what should be a promotion-chasing squad next season.

I think the only surprise was Leon Davies, as I thought he did OK the last few games. The only reason I can think is knowing the injury issues Clifford and Ralph have, and it's harder to find good defensive natural left footed players, Kev probably wants RWBs to be able to switch to the left when called upon. Davies never looked comfortable doing that. JD, will be back up no doubt, and can play both sides.
Totally trust in the management team who have a player lined up.

Dunne and Atko not a surprise. Whilst they may have contributed to us steering clear of relegation, particularly Atko in that run, our objective has changed and so does our personnel targets need to, to match that. We are no longer needing players to help us stay mid table, we need progressive players hungry for promotion. I'm sure they'll be 2-3 coming into that role ..... very good players!

Absolutely brilliant. The surgery that was needed. Now the patient can heal over the break and come back fighting fit for next season leaner and meaner. The treatment waiting list has been too long but eventually got the operation. Cannot wait to see the result next season.

Iam pretty sure the back room team and the three amigos will be woorking hard to geet the right players through the door .The only fly in the iontment is tight wad Ron .Iam sure the ceo and stan will show him what is righ for the club .
