Adam Barrett at left back?

This isn't intended to reopen the pro/anti Che debate, but with Eagle playing so well and Barrett's relative lack of stature (for a centre back) having been exposed a few times this season I wonder it might be worth considering a back line of Barret-Prior-Edwards-Hunt. I thought that in the Port Vale game in particular the combination of Barrett and Mitch Cole looked our most dangerous and he'd have greater free license for his attacking forays in that position. That defensive line up certainly looks extremely solid to me as well.

I'd leave things as they are for the time being, but it could be a possibility to bear in mind - any thoughts?

I think that having Eagle and spinner together would be a mistake. they are both a bit older and slower and the first games of last season showed that!

i've been thinkin long and hard about this and i think NO!!!

I think that Barret would be a lot better going forward from left back than Che is, because he has strength and he beats his man well. I wouldnt mind seeing Barrett played at left back however i dont think we have enough quality in central defence without him and we dont have enough cover either.

ADAM is the heart and soul of our defence and where ever he plays he'll give his all.
If your looking for cover / replacing Che then what about Petts? He's got a great energy level and would link up well with the midfield, he tackles and breaks down play and although, vertically challenged, always seems to be on the goal line or by a post at set pieces.
just a thought.

I didn't think that there would be too many people in agreement.

I agree that it's more a case that Barrett will come good this season and we need him in the middle - I've got no doubts whatsoever that he'd do a great job at left back if called upon, and I'm absolutely serious when I say that I think that, with experience, he could possibly go further in the game as a left back than a centre back.

I guess you could say that his crossing is unproven, but what else doesn't he have that you'd look for in a fullback?

I dont think its a case of what he doesn't offer as a full-back, its more to do with what he does offer as a centre back that made people say no. I definately would leave him as centre back. He is superb there and we are pretty solid anyway so 'if it aint broke, dont fix it'.
