Last season Thompson played hs best football alongside Anton and after 2 games with Bury is sent to Brasdford and is now warning the bench. And surprisingly or not Harry Kiprianou is playing out of his skin alongside Anton. It seems Southend fans love someone to hate. A few weeks ago it was Jason. Now he's playing well and scoring the wolves have disappeared. Then Timlin but he told a "fan" where to go and he is Millwall and bit of a toughy so they've backed off. So its now Anton's turn. His hamstrings might be dodgy but his reading of the game and mentoring of the kids is first class. Thank God PB knows a bit about football.

Spot on mate!
How many of the Anton moaners are the same people calling for JW to get Anton's starting place/captain's band etc, are the same people that wanted JW released at the end of last season? Or wanted Oxley replaced?

That's just a bit harsh Massimo if I may say so. I would like John White to replace Anton for moment as I think he needs a rest. I don't want White to take the Captain's band, I didn't want him released at the end of last season and neither have I wanted Oxley out. Ferdinand, for whatever reason, is not performing to a level which is necessary in the centre of the defence just now. So, I fit some of your Ferdinand description but I don't think it's moaning to challenge his right to a place.

So Anton has been red carded after the Donny game.
As it was dissent, non violent conduct will he get the 1 match ban?
And while he "rests" (which many have advocated!) he will come back with a clean, expunged count for yellow cards won't he?

We are a small squad and the balance between youth and experience is so important. Antons form last season shows just what he can bring to the team overall and especially the young players coming through. This season has been a nightmare injury wise but we are still only 4 points off the play offs so we have to hope that form and the magic pairing appear in the next month otherwise the season will be gone.

It's obvious that players around Anton benefit from his experience and on-pitch advice. It's also obvious that Phil rates him highly for loads of reasons. That's fine, but he is not producing anywhere near the level of performance that he displayed last season. Whilst the likes of Kyprianou have blossomed, there must also be a level of disappointment from other more experienced players when he gets exposed for pace which then costs us goals. Defenders should defend together as a unit and that is not happening at the moment. I don't have easy solutions to what I perceive to be the issue. This is predominantly down to the fact that we don't have anyone ready to step in as a specialist defender. So, apart from the fact that we have to deal with his enforced absence (and for a captain that is a pretty stupid absence in my view) we now have to patch up and carry on. When his suspension is spent I will be interested to see whether he walks back into his position, and for that matter, I will be interested to see if his form is better.

Probably 2 (depending on the referee's report) and definitely "no" to the second question. He remains on 2 yellows.

Wait until Turner is back :hilarious:

The bigger concern than our lack of pace at the back is Brown not realising it

1. It's Phil Brown. Why are you paying attention to what he says?
2. I think he does realise that lack of pace at the back is an issue. That's why Kyprianou's playing centre-half.
3. What does he gain from saying yes? That's hardly going to improve the confidence of Bowonomo when he's scapegoated for this loss. Telling players they are immobile isn't going to make them run quicker.
