Banning Orders

Passions and emotions running high or a wider problem in European societies?
The calculated nature of dressing up like England fans wearing masks when you're German suggests the latter, sadly.

I struggle with people's apparent need to go on the pitch unless it's a promotion scenario or like the Sunderland game in 2019.

Do they not realise that the Club gets fined every time someone does it, or do they just not care? I dread to think how much the Club has had to pay out because of the behaviour of our supporters in recent years.

Used to be mildy amusing to see some bare chested bloke attempt to run the length of the pitch and evade stewards and/or police, but now, with the stupidity of some (I'm not talking about any of ours who've done it here), players are at risk every time it happens.
Agreed. But I think alcohol removes the hmm is this damaging for the financial status of the club thought process aha

Compared to some clubs we are no where near the worst, football is a passionate game and that’s what makes it special, matches don’t have rugby score lines which is perfect that’s what makes a goal special.
Passion though is always one step in the wrong direction away from issues taking place. The game and the scene is nowhere near as bad as it was in the 80s and huge steps forward made, is it perfect? No, will it ever be? No, but would I want to see the tribalism the emotions the sense of belonging and being apart of something go? Never
Totally agree with that.

And it will never be perfect because humans are involved, and as we all know. Some humans are bell ends.

The report actually makes for an interesting read.

A ban can range from a minimum 3 years to a maximum 10 years.

From the tables we had 10 new bans issued in 2015/16, 14 new bans issued in 2016/17.
In 2017 we had 25 active bans, this reduced in 2018 to 24, in 2019 to 15, in 2020 to 14, in 2021 it stayed 14 but one 18-34 year old finished a ban to be replaced by a 50-64 year old.
That 50-64 year old in 2021 was the last ban to be issued...

Also tucked away in the report are details around how the stats are collated.
Of interest there:- an individual can actually have more than one ban running concurrently, in theory there could be less than 14 individuals for those 14 bans;
also of interest is that an individual can appear on more than one club's stat, if one of those large number of West Ham bannees also state that they also follow Southend and Dagenham then they would not only appear on West Ham's figures but also appear on Southend and on Dagenham as well.

As the saying goes:- there are statistics, statistics and....

Interesting read though, if you like that sort of thing... :Winking:

Awfulness is a lovely term. Did you witness it?
"The group, many of who were wearing masks, entered the Green Man pub at 17:50 BST and started attacking fans. Three people suffered serious leg, wrist and thumb injuries and were treated at the scene. Others sustained head and facial injuries but none are believed to be in a life-threatening condition. It has been reported the group were carrying weapons, including machetes and knuckle-dusters, but this has not been confirmed by police."

I don't think @Chris Powell's mate's adjective is too far away, by civilised standards.

I think the vast majority of football fans are decent people of course there are a minority that are badly behaved but I think there are ao many positives that football brings to us all still.Remember too that nowadays vast majority of any incidents are highlighted straight away with social media etc unlike 80s when aggro often wasn't reported as quickly.I think we have to be mindful of trouble at football but not go overboard about it.

Yes I read the same press report. So where are these machete and knuckle duster injuries?

This is not a dig at you Ipswich but there were such injuries including one dead with 100 young men fighting in another part of London but lets not mention that. For the sake of diversity the MSM should focus of football fans

Unless of course you are the innocent victim, just going to watch a game and have a pint before the game

We are an easy target!

Where should we obtain our news from if not from the MSM?

Do you have any non MSM outlets that you could suggest

Fair point @rigsby, we are, of course, always dependent upon what goes reported and what doesn't.

The first place should be your own mind. :Winking:

Turn off the fear porn and constant brain washing even in dramas and soaps. Seek knowledge from those who are wiser than ones self. Ordinary people have the answers not politicians or the press.

Any football fan should know this.

Not quite sure what you're saying, but...
Didn't witness it to answer your question, only read eight different reports (with pics) that said five people ended up in hospital.
We'll assume that has some traction.
Why is awfulness a 'lovely' term? Surely, a contradiction? 'Apt' maybe, but 'lovely'?

Interesting concept, but even 'ordinary' folk will be biased and slant their opinions to fit personal agendas.
One assumes that journos and politicians are not ordinary?
Even so, why should the plumber have better knowledge than someone trained to seek information?
I wouldn't call a journo to mend my boiler.
Surely, the trick is to read and watch as much as possible and get a balanced view.
'...Seek knowledge from those who are wiser than ones self...' puts me in mind of Kung Fu from the 70s, Grasshopper and all that, for those of us of a certain age!
