Why would Rangers do a season long loan? Kiernan has a year left on his contract so he'd leave on a free in a year's time. In the meantime, the gap in wages compared to what he would earn at Rangers for this next year will be exactly the same problem. Either they would need to fund the difference, or he would need to accept less wages. Neither of those make sense for a year long loan that ends with him being out of contract, unless he is the one who doesn't want to sign for us permanently and is therefore refusing to terminate his contract early. If he was refusing to sign for us other than on a temporary loan to get in the shop window, I don't understand why we wouldnt have moved on to another target ages ago. There is no benefit to Rangers holding him to his contract and paying the difference in wages while loaning him to us, but not releasing him.

I am late on the scene in terms of this discussion. Might the sale of a current Southend player be the key to financing a deal between Southend United and Glasgow Rangers?

It's widely reported that Kiernan has been useless at Rangers and the club and fans are keen to offload him. Surprising as he was decent here on loan.

Your right in a lot of what you say but we are talking football here. Not only football but Rangers FC. We'll just have to wait and see.

The only conceivable benefit to Rangers agreeing a loan would be the ability to recall him if he comes here and rediscovers his form to the point they want him back or need him, which is the same reason we would probably want it to be a permanent. The player on the other hand may fancy the loan idea as he ends up a free agent having maybe restored his reputation..

Has anyone here noticed that Jack Payne has been loaned to Oxford by Huddersfield?

Yes it's on the ex- shrimpers forum. It seems we will be facing him this coming season, him running with the ball against Ferdinand and Turner fills me with dread.:winking:
