Brexit negotiations thread

Blue passports. Again, a non-story. It is something that gives Brexiteers a cheer and has been seen as a pointless exercise by Remainers. In effect, it is neither. It just an update of a document that allows you to cross borders. What is probably more important is how much that passport can get you when travelling abroad. Some of you might find getting through Alicante airport on your holibobs will take a bit longer, fewer will find it more difficult to get work overseas.

There are for more bigger and complicated fish to fry than the colour of your passport.

And that's part of the problem with your ilk. In 10 years time we could have had a decade of sustainable growth with increased overseas investment year on year and with our collective export market to companies around the world up 10% or more and you'd STILL find something to bleat and whine about how wrong it all was.

Get a grip man.

Can I borrow your rose-tinted crystal ball for this weekends's Euro Millions? You seem to have blind faith in the Tory ****wits not making a mess of this. I wouldn't trust them a millimetre as they're already millionaires and won't be affected if it all goes tits up - unlike 99.9% of the population.

Surely, herein is one of the BIG problems. Exactly which hymn sheet is this government singing from?...........there seem to be a number of different versions.

On an historical note, anyone who's read the introduction to AJP Taylor's excellent "The Origins of the Second World War" will know that no Brit. needed a passport as a travel document before 1915.How times have changed-blue passport or not!

One could ask the same question about the opposition. What is Labour's policy on Brexit this week? It's just so difficult to keep up.

Here's a helpful reminder of the joined up thinking of some of the real "big hitters".

Well, I'm certainly not here to defend Labour's position on Brexit (if you can understand what it is......... is it defendable?...........trying to please everyone?), I'll leave that to *** & TuiB! However, the bottom line is that, Labour is not responsible for seeing the UK through Brexit (at least, for the moment). The tories are the ones who called the referendum, triggered article 50 and (admittedly with help of the EU) fudged their way to the second level of negotiations.........just about keeping the cabinet onside. Surely here the fudge must stop and a clear idea of what they see as our future relationship with the EU and how that is going to be achieved must emerge. May is going to be pulled one way and another and will have a desperately hard (impossible) job to unite her party behind any one position. That's without the La La Land dreams of some, who doggedly still believe a 'having your cake and eating it' or 'cherry picking' agreement is still a possibility.

Pretty much sums it up. Labour policy is largely - nothing is off the table. The reasons are because 1. if and when Labour were in a position of government they would have to pick up from wherever the Tories had got us 2. the position the Tories have got us to at that point will dictate how the public feel about Brexit at that point - if the Tories have made an almighty mess of things then 'the will of the people' may be very different to where it was at the referendum. Or the Tories may have set up a glorious new dawn....

'but what is Labour's policy?' should be of little interest to Leavers. The Tories are leading the negotiations and have announced blue passports (though we could actually have changed the colour at any point since Thatcher changed the colour in 1988), they have negotiated the £40bn payment to the EU and the continued influence of the EU courts and probably no change to the Irish border. It's the Tory May who came to agreement with the EU to get to stage 2 and Tory Davis whose actions made that necessary to be set in stone. It's the Tories who had 50 or so extensive impact assessments, then kept them secret, then turns out hadn't really produced any at all. So if Leavers are happy that things are going well it's the Tories they should congratulate and if they are not pleased it's the Tories they should blame. It's all in their hands.

Of course no labour politician is a millionaire, they're all using food banks with the rest of us.
Christ you're so very naive at times.

What has Labour got to do with this?

Labour have their share of multi millionaries but they seem to be fine and dandy. You seem to have issues with tory ones. What's the difference between a self made one and one that has made himself one from the public purse?

Just asking like.

Self made? Most of them are lucky enough to be born into wealth. Rees-Mogg?
