ECHO Front Page

Hmm... that does make the club look a bit, well, tawdry... and it will have Sue Steer and the SKARERS mutants climbing the walls.

One out of two ain't bad...

I saw this about mid-day today but really didn't see the point in posting it as i thought it was a massive non-story.
To be honest, having read it again, i still do.
I really don't think the club would give away money in this way, especially with the supporters club working so closely to the club nowadays, and with a fan (Dave Scriven) working at the club.
Yeah, yeah, it was on the club's headed paper according to a 'Tory spokesperson', so what, doesn't mean the money came from club funds does it?
And if it has come from Ron Martin himself or the club's owners then so what? They're entitled to spend their cash on what they want- they can't pump EVERY PENNY they make into the football club. They probably have other capital to spend elsewhere.
It just seems to me that the donation has been funded by the club's owners, not by the club's money. And people have therefore presumed that it's the club's money.
A non story.
I may get slated but what does everybody else think?

oh well that's one way of speeding up the planning application!

I guess £6500 may go some way towards the Mayors season ticket at Stamford Bridge.

Not in my name!!!

I pay good money (well, reduced rates actually) to watch the Shrimpers and I expect that money to be ploughed back into the club (as much as £7 can be 'ploughed'). My pounds should be spent on new players, seat cushions or on improving the range of player mugs on offer in the club shop. I certainly do not expect my cash to be handed over to the Conservative party on a club crested cheque.  If Ron Martian wants to spend his wages backing a spent political force that's his choice. I wonder if our players- most of whom are paid up members of the Communist Party of Great Britain*- agree with this?

However, if this donation 'smoothes the way' to a new stadium being built, I may just let this pass.

* I know for a fact that Carl 'Marx' Pettefer and Freddy 'Engels' Eastwood run a popular Marxist theory school at the back of the team coach, although apparently Paul Brush 'just can't get on with Althusser'.

My nomination for post of the day.

I'd certainly question how much you know as a fact, because you missed out Che, who should have been one of the first names to spring to mind.

Che "Harold" Wilson is often seen talking about Carl and Freddy's ideas, although he seems to be categorised as 'on the left', I can't help thinking he is more suited to the right......

Could always try to win it back at the new casino-if that ever comes off. Or is that another non-story from The Echo.

C'mon, it must surely be Che "Guevara" Wilson...

Too subtle for you then Matt!

Besides the Stuart "Marcia" Williams username wouldn't have then worked........

i was disgusted when I read this on the front page of the echo it wouldnt have any objections though if it had been a donation to the BNP

I know I shouldn't bite because that's what you want, but I can't help it. You stupid tw*t!

I should imagine that hearing that the club donated to the BNP would do wonders for the morale of our players (both the black ones and their white friends and team mates).

I did wonder when the boards outside the newsagents screamed 'Southend Boss Gives Money To Tories'

when I realised it wasnt Tilson I stopped caring, and realised he had more sense than that.

Is this definitely a new story?

I seem to recall there being a story last summer about us trying to buy Taylor. We all just presumed they meant Scott Taylor of Blackpool, when clearly Ron Martin was trying to buy Teddy Taylor.

We could definitely do with a hard-working, genuine right-winger.

Any money that contributes to the Downfall of Dictator Blair is money well spent!

Club funds or not!

Shame it wasn't more!!!!

If it is a personal contribution by Ron Martin then fine, it's a private matter and a complete non-story.

However I would be extremely annoyed if a donation was made by the club to any political party, the club should be apolitical as an organisation regardless of the views of individuals within it.

Seems to me the big story is that Uncle Ron used company paper to write a personal letter. using company property for personal use is therefore theft. I expect nothing less than a public spanking at half time performed by Southends very own Blue Belles.

Shouldn't he be punished though? I reckon he'd enjoy that!
