Elbow Playing at the Cliffs

So the gig was last night, what did everyone who went think?

For me they were superb, as good as the previous two occasions I'd seen them, and I was suprised at how many songs off their first album they played. Does anyone have setlist for the show? I think I have most of the songs but not the order...

Starlings
The Bones of You
Mirrorball

Red (???? - not sure about this one)
Leaders of the Free World
Any Day Now
Grounds For Divorce
The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver
Newborn
Switching Off
Mexican Standoff
Weather To Fly
One Day Like This
---------------encore
Station Approach
Some Riot
Scattered Black & Whites

There were a few good Sea-Sea-Seasiders chants at the gig last night, escpecially when Guy asked the audience "So, what's Southend like then?"

Anyone on here responsible for those?

I heard there was good banter esp with support band.... something about what do peeps do in SOuthend... stab each other!?!?

Yeah, they were Canadian and asked what people do in Southend, to which someone piped up "stab each other".

They were a cracking band though - The Acorn, indie-folk not unlike the Shins but more melancholic. Mrs O bought me their album from the merch stand and I've been listening to it all day at work, it's very good.

Brilliant gig, really enjoyed it and Elbow were superb. Enjoyed Acorn too... a few fights were kicking off at the back which was a bit surprising! Excellent gig though. Whoever bought the Elbow Apron and was wearing it in the crowd is a legend!

Ah, did you come down for it? Excellent. Where were you?

I didn't see any of the fights, hard to believe at an Elbow gig. They have a much more mature audience now than the last time I saw them at the Astoria around the time of Cast of Thousands.

I did like the merchandise, mugs, aprons & tea towels! I was tempted by the teatowel....i must be getting old.

yeah i was down for the weekend (beginning the wedding plans!), went their with the missus. we were stood right at the back by the sounddesk. there was lots of shouting and some scuffles near the bar bit the otherside of the sounddesk, then during the encore someone guy landed a sweet punch on some other lad just in front of us. don't really expect fights at Elbow, i definitely felt young there!

yeah the merch was superb - i always end up spending my money on beer though and not having enough for something cool!
