The supposedly terrible bowling has defended sub par at Lord's last night and restricted Surrey to 155 tonight.

Cook has been one of the best powerplay bowlers in the tournament. Beard's first over tonight was class when executing a clear plan to target Roy's toes. Dead LBW turned down and then knocks him over. Lawrence back gives 3 different spinner types to squeeze the middle overs.

Essex aren't a great side on paper but tactically they are doing a great job so far. That and a handy fixture situation (playing Surrey only once and that when qualified and depleted; Glos v Hants twice in last 3 games guaranteeing rivals drop points) means Essex are nearly nailed on to qualify now.
 
That was a really good performance and the fielding outstanding. Westley’s catch, Allinson’s juggling on the boundary, a smart Harmer caught and bowled. The batting is a weakness but they’re not reliant on any one player and they all try and score at a good rate and hit boundaries, even if it doesn’t always come off the intent is now there.
 
Definitely a team that is greater than the sum of its parts. Wonderful performance against a team that should be contenders. Do we dare to dream?
 
I have now watched the last 3 short games as no football to watch. Pepper seems an amazing young talent as a batsman. Every shot in the book. Very attacking and confident as well. Very enjoyable watching him. Regarding the bowling. Cook and Beard make a huge difference to the side, now they have come in.

I'm so glad we have gone back to producing pitches that are Simon Harmer friendly! Hopefully it's not to late to challenge Surrey! We don't play Surrey at home though 😩
We will lose harmer to South Africa but I was reliably informed that the 2 championship games he will miss are both away games
