I hope he does. I'm probably one of only a few on here who thinks he has been good for the club overall.

Yes. Overall I would agree with you.

The real worry for the clubs long term future lies in the fact that all the out of towners moving in or dispatched to live here by London boroughs, wont support SUFC. They will dispace local born and breds who will move away from an ever increasing multicultural Southend hell hole and we'll end up in a situation of dwindling gates and extinction.

Btw, I thought the club was going to receive all the revenue streams from the retail outlets in the original plans. Perhaps that has changed following the revamp.

Darlington were a prime example that a new stadium isn't the answer to a football clubs financial problems even if it has all four sides!

I hope this makes us solvent!

We've had this before, its not really a legitimate comparison. Darlington have never had the fanbase and a 24K or whatever to was was obviously completely ridiculous and also Reynolds was a crook.

Look at teams that used to be our level, Hull, Swansea, Reading, Brighton to name a few that have all had new stadiums and have all been in the Premiership (well Brighton will be next season).

We could be playing Swansea, Hull and Reading again next season.

Any 3 sided stadium without the main stand is football suicide for the club!...the team would be relying on ticketing without further revenue streams.

Coventry are the gleaming example, they have recently sold their training ground for housing and the lease on the stadium expires soon..they are in danger of going out of business.City relied on scraps to fund the team..it doesn't work.

Financial suicide? Obviously you know more about the details of our proposed move than the rest of us do. You have an unequalled knowledge of football and clearly are a business guru. Do your talents know no bounds?

I have just driven over there. I had to see it with my own eyes, took some photos. So bloody excited some positive action at last on new stadium...GET IN

Maybe it's the age of most on here, but with shiny new navy blue fences being erected there is far too much premature ejac excitement going on here. Blue fences alone don't equal anything more than fences being erected. Now when we see men digging holes and Jam man sees men with clipboards and name badges on lanyards, then that's the time for jumping up and down.

I am 56 mate I can still get excited at seeing Blue gloss fences with white writing on them saying New stadium, Phase One...after years of nothing happening over there...Get in

I have been invited to Valencia v Sevilla this afternoon, First non-Shrimpers game in over a decade.

Enjoy the day 'Kev'.

One of the very few stadiums abroad that I've actually been in. Only stuck my head in the door when on holiday near there.

Very impressive place. Hard to believe the size of it, given it's location.

Quality city, yer Valencia, as well!

Very true,

Just the annual rent on FF circa hmmm 400k sets up His family very nicely each and every year.
you do realise that there will be a company, tax etc between Ron and the rental income.
also the rental charge for the new stadium has yet to be set.As well as the 400k being the RH / b&l rent, which has been charged once in the past 15 years .
Once again you can be commended for an accurate , well reasearched post, well done

My understanding is that this £400k gets added to the clubs debt every year, and makes up the bulk of our red on the balance sheet. So I've always been under the impression, rightly or wrongly, that if we get promoted to the prem or unearth a £20m starlet and get some huge money in, Ron will get a big payout. Until then, he is subsidising us to a degree

Only charged once yes...accrued throughout the remainder yes!

What have I misconstrued ?.....Ron at any time can charge rent and at whatever amount he deems fit.

Only 16 years to get to the beginning of Phase One. I hope there aren't too many phases.

Clearly you have zero common sense hence your idiotic reply...Ron is a businessman and a very good one at that, any main stand is the most expensive to build hence why the 3 sided proposal, the club would be left with ticket sales whilst trying to pay any rent due.

3 of those clubs are city based whilst Reading have always enjoyed decent support...Hull and Reading were relegated and Swansea look as though they will follow....Middlesborough with their newish stadium look doomed along with Sunderland who also have a newish stadium.

We need a new stadium , it's as simple as that. Roots hall needs million millions spent on it to improve it, sadly it's a tire old stadium . We haven't got that money . The new stadium is built using money generated from a sale of the RH land, granted we still need a business in place to run the new stadium, BUT for me it's the only way I can see a long term future. You can't keep throwing money at RH to bandage over the problems .

For me, RH is the spiritual home, but surely it doesn't take a genius to realise its crumbling , old and tired.

And how many smaller clubs have made it into the prem and survived for a long period, still in their 10k capacity stadium that they've played in for 50 years?

My point is many think FF will propel the club to greater heights ,it may do...but football history suggests it won't !

One thing is certain any 3 sided stadium will be a disaster.

Footballing history proves that it gives you more of a chance to get to greater heights. Some clubs have made it to the prem or established themselves as Champ clubs that were previously not at that level. It doesn't guarantee it, of course not, but its football and we wouldn't bother going if the team with the biggest stadium always won.
