And why have harsh punishments such as these not been meted out to Islamist hatemongers?

But they have. Hamza is still in Belmarsh (a tougher gig than those two got) on a seven-year sentence and is due to be deported to the US at the end of his sentence. Bakri would undoubtedly be jailed were he to come back to the UK, but the government has sensibly spared the public expense of banging him up by denying him re-entry to the country after he fled to Lebanon in 2005.

Just Anjem Choudhary to go, really - hopefully he'll be banged up sooner or later. But I see no inconsistency here between the treatment of the Islamist hate-mongers and the aforementioned anti-semites.

Matt

I suspect the 5 years could also have been for leaving the country propably while either under bail conditions or remand .
Its a very tricky thing this , as your aware the last major anti semtic movement was a well organised media blitz as well (reports of scientific facts de humanising european Jew's hideous pictures etc ). Mad inane shouty rantings can be better dismissed, then well orchestrated literature attacks , as people are conditioned more to react to these forms of media for reliable and accurate information.

Well I'm afraid I do, because Hamza had the small matter of 'inciting murder' included in his convictions.

I would like to see more of these racist rappers jailed.

I remember as a kid some of the black lads at school used to listen to a group called Gorrilas in the Mist. One of there songs had the lyrics.

"Buck(shoot) that Devil (The whiteman) - Come again black man". Now for me that is as incitement to racism if I ever heard it yet it seems perfectly acceptable if your a) a rapper and b) black.

There was a great letter in Viz which went along the lines of:

How come Dr Dre. can use the N word 158 times on an album and win a MOBO award yet when I used it once at my sons under eight football match I was escorted from the pitch?

I had to laugh as on Mock the Week they were taking the mickey out of Abu-Hamza. The one with hook.

"Police officers investigate took 3 year longer than expected, they had to find fingerprints"

:D

But yeah, free speech is a bum.

Freedom of speech won't feed my children, just brings heart disease and bootleg clothing.

As a Jewish person, I found the internet postings of Simon Sheppard and Stephen Whittle regarding holocaust denial extremely offensive, but do such things really warrant a five year jail sentence? And why have harsh punishments such as these not been meted out to Islamist hatemongers? Here's the story from the thoroughly approving BBC:

This from 2007 after the danish cartoon demos:

Mizanur Rahman, 24, Umran Javed, 27, and Abdul Muhid, 25, were each jailed for six years for inciting murder and racial hatred during a demonstration against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed. A fourth man, 32-year-old Abdul Saleem, was cleared of soliciting murder but convicted of inciting racial hatred. He was jailed for four years.

With the exception of the fourth man, once again we see the issue of inciting murder. I also think there's a difference between posting on the internet and getting out in the face of people - just a personal point of view.
