Hi everyone. This is my first time in this section of the forum so id just like to say hi.

Right. The reason i am writing is i am currently in my final year of university. I do a Graphic communications course and have recently been given my final major project, where we are able to write and construct our own briefs. Right enough of that.

Basically my idea is looking at the current style of english football. Are the players we are producing skilful enough. We all have the joy of watching Ronaldo play for Man utd every now and again on match of the day, and maybe watching the likes of Kaka, messi, Ronaldinho, Henry etc etc.

So the title of this thread is Futsal and the future. I am guessing that alot of people don't know much about futsal. I didnt until i started this project.

But basically Futsal is a fast paced, skill driven, intense version of the english "5 a side". Futsal is played in more or less every country that is producing these world beaters, but why don't we play it in england. Well if you checked out their website you would see why, it isn't exactly inspiring to young people.

All the other countires have had proffesional futsal leagues set up for years, englands league is finally being set up in March. Probably with limited funding and volunteers.

Futsal encourages you to take people on, beat players, show boat if you like. This is the side of the game that you cannot teach older players and we seem to teach kids the disaplinary side of football before the skill side. I do not agree with this!

This is what futsal encourages, beating players. using skill. and i would like some opinions as to whether people feel this is the sort of player england craves. A new gazza maybe?

and whether futsal is the future of how we are going to produce these wonderkids?

If needed check out youtube for some amazing futsal videos of 9 or 10 year old brazilian kids that would put the english national team to shame with there skills.

I would like to thank every person that writes an opinion on this thread, and i will be checking it regularly to start discussions if people have some intresting views.

Thanks again

Nothing will change within English football, until the English culture changes.

From an extremely early age, individualism is stamped out, and uniformity is cast upon us all - in all forms of life. You think of English players, you don't think of flair, skill, poise, excitement, it's always 'bravery', 'heart', and 'strength'. Sometimes that stuff just isn't enough.

Getting Futsal into the mainstream can only help produce more skilful players long-term for England.

As you said it teaches so many more valuable "skills" rather than disciplines! I'd also like to see a wider adoption of the Ajax mentality whereby you play in defence for the U8s for example, then switch to midfield for the U9s & then up front for the U10s. This rotation helps to teach players far more about the game. Once they get older and switch to bigger pitches they can then specialise in their favoured position.

Futsal is quite a good idea, it should do well for producing this country some talent, it's taken too long to set up a league for it. I fancy having a go of it actually, I think I'd enjoy it.
