"Gap" car insurance.

Definitley take GAP if you're buying new. £200 is about right for that car and it's nothing compared to the significant loss you could incur as a result of a total loss accident. No one wants to be taking out a loan, racking up debt on a credit card or raiding savings for several thousand pounds needed to pay off a finance agreement for a car you don't even have anymore.

Your insurers will pay you market value (unless you have an agreed value policy, which is unlikely) which will be significantly less than what you owe, the minute you drive it off the forecourt. I work in the industry and deal with these policies quite a lot. The only thing that really goes wrong is if the GAP insurers dispute the value your insurers pay for your vehicle. It's relatively easy to sort that out though.

Don't take the Gap insurance offered by the dealer you buy your car from... As with all insurance, search the web , you'll be sure to find it cheaper
