Comparing our home form with our away form sheds some interesting light on a couple of issues we've discussed widely on SZ of late, namely tactics away from home and lack of atmosphere at home.

Home form, we've won half our games (8), draw 4 and lost 4. Scored just 23, but conceded only 15 (less than a goal a game). Things are very tight at home games, but seldom going against us. Tense and tight does not make for a party atmosphere; but if we roared them on, the tension would not be as bad, would it?

Away, we've won 10, drawn just 1 and lost 6. Goals scored is very interesting though - 34 for, 25 against. Lots of goals, suggesting, freer, more open football. No-one has scored as many as us away from home (only a couple of teams come anywhere near our away scoring record); likewise, only one other in the top 10 or so has conceded as many as us.

Currently, our points per game ratio is better away from home than at home. Home is where the fans can really make a difference. It's down to the boys on the pitch at the end of the day, but regardless of that, if WE really cared and wanted to see them go up, we should make that 100%, butt-slappingly, bollock-kickingly clear for the remainder of our home games.

How about it?

I'm all for the sentiment in this post mate but how many of these threads have we had this season or in any other year?
At the end of the day we have, like all clubs, a hardcore of very dedicated and passionate fans and our fair share of idiots who seem to take great pride in abusing our own players and taking some sort of satisfaction when someone they don't rate plays poorly just to be proven right. The "I told you he was ****" brigade.

We won't ever rid the club of this type of "supporter" because as I've said above every club has them. What we can do is get as many vocal and positive supporters as possible to congregate together in the Blue Voice section of the ground and get the atmosphere going from the start. Ultimately the atmosphere is often dictated at Roots Hall by the attendance and the action on the pitch but with our players' confidence at a real low right now its vital we start some songs from the off. We're expecting a decent crowd for Crawley so hopefully it starts well.

Surely this means we should make less noise and not roar them on, therefore recreating the "away atmosphere" resulting in a better points per game ratio.

Everyone bring a book to the Crawley game.
