A year ago "today" (15/02/15) we lost 2-3 at home to exeter with Mark Phillips scoring as a direct result of a corner. I think this is the last time we have scored a header from a corner with the ball going from the boot of corner taker to head of goal scorer without being touched (ie what you expect a normal goal from a corner to look like)...

Can anyone think of one since then?

If Not then this is absolutely embarrassing for any team in any division wether semi pro or professional! We aren't exactly a small side?!

Leonard scored from a corner at Mansfield away but it wasn't a header.

I would say the opposition defenders always seem a lot taller and more dominant especially now we have JBW and Thompson instead of Prosser and Bolger. Can't see us scoring a header from a corner this season but that doesn't really matter as long as we score somehow.

Didn't BBBC score against Tranmere last season? I can't remember who it was against, or whether that was after Exeter...

Ridiculous, I firmly believe that you would see more threatening set pieces in the Ryman league or Essex Senior league. The problem doesn't necessarily lie with the players attacking the set pieces, I firmly believe that the lack of goals lies with the sub standard delivery of these corners.

Without Hurst in the side it is very evident that we lack quality with our set pieces, Worrall, Coker and Timlin are certainly not technically set piece specialists.

For anyone that has played and indeed been involved with defending or attacking corners you will agree that pace on the delivery is just as key as to what area the ball is being delivered. Match after match our delivery is lofted up with a lack of pace which allows the defensive team to clear the deliver at ease, if our attacking players get to the ball first then it needs to be an exceptional header to beat the opposition keepers as the attackers would need to generate their own power on their header (due to the lack of pace on the initial delivery). From experience I can tell you that when you have to generate power in to a header you tend to lose your technique and accuracy.

The issue is clearly evident and the blame should lie with the management team, they need to identify the set piece specialists, work on the type of delivery and areas where they want to attack. It's basics - for a professional club to have such a poor return of goals for such a big side is simply unacceptable.

Didn't Barry Corr score from a header from a corner against Portsmouth in September?

Not directly. The ball span off a defender's foot up to Corr who headed it in. The corner wasn't on Barry's head, which is what the original post I think specified.

It wasn't that long ago we were actually finally celebrating a Southend goal at Roots Hall. Now we want to get ahead of ourselves and actually want a goal directly from a corner, not only that, but directly and a header. Some people!
