I'd say this is exactly the kind of post that belongs in The Pub and a good bit of harmless Friday fun. I think it would be a shame if it's deleted. Is this how we welcome new members on SZ now? Yes I know no-one's been nasty to him but if someone's posting for the first few times and they get the p*** ripped out of them then they may not stick around. Unless a newbie posts something completely offensive or stupid then there should be a bit of a softening up period before the banter starts properly.
