Well said - and I think one of the biggest failings of the club in the last 25 years. We seem to have the youth system under Ricky Duncan doing well (we are producing players, unfortunately the way things are, most of them seem to get sold before they reach the first team, but I digress) but the scouting system is a shambles.

In the South East of England, there is a thriving non-league system, with teams seemingly having decent players that we should be looking at. Why don't we have better relations with non-league teams that could give their up and coming players a route into league football and we could send our better youngsters there?

I agree totally with the statement above - Gower, Hall, Clohessy and Eastwood all came from non-league and there must be others. It really annoys me when a non-league player local to us signs for another club miles away.

Who is our Chief Scout, and does he have anyone working for him?

Just thought I'd mention this post again... :winking::thumbsup:

Lets be clear. Im always willing to give anyone coming into the club a chance and have done with paul sturrock .

I also feel that without paul coming in when he did that we may well have gone into non league football.

My point is that we have never played the way under sturrock that the fans would like to see. Last season we put up with it because it was getting results and it could be justified.

This season we have been stripped of our best players either they have been sold injured or just plainly refused to play for the club.

You could argue that this is not the managers fault and rightly so , but the show must always go on and any manager worth his salt should be able to push the club on again.

I think with this in mind some of sturrocks signings have been really poor. Spicer Straker and benyon are some of the poorest players we have had down at the club for 10 years.

I think that maybe sturrock as wiley an old fox as he is needs to be replaced with a younger or hungrier manager from non league.

Every week its the same old excuses wether we are playing top of the league or bottom.

That performance tonight was as bad as i have seen from a southend side , particularly first half and given it was against a side that had lost 7 straight.

The excellent fan base that was built under rons early tenure of the club has evaporated and this tonight was a close to being back to Alvin Martin and Allen Little etc as i can remember.

Its imperative to get out of this league as quickly and im afraid that under Paul sturrock we will not get out of this league for a few seasons yet.

I actually beleive we have a much much better squad than our performances suggests and that to me tells me that we are not getting anywhere near the levels we should achieve and the buck stops with sturrock.

You can say that this is a knee jerk reaction , but like i said i have never been a fan , but have accepted that we got results. We are being embaressed this season regularly and people will not suffer this poor excuse for football at £21 a go.

The club cannot afford to lose 1000 people off the gate and this we must be down by about that much gate wise.

Thanks for all your hard work Paul , but its time to give some younger or hungrier blood a go.

A certain braintree town manager would do for me.

How much better do you think we'd be doing now had we appointed a certain Braintree Town manager in October?

Reading through this thread again prompts the question of where the hell is Beverly Hills Cop Blue/blue79? He seems to have disappeared off the face of the Earth (probably to talk about the club he actually supports) as soon as we started winning games.

Heard an interesting stat on the Radio coming home from Daggers on Boxing Day, that half of the managers in the four top divisions have been appointed in 2012, that's 46 clubs out of the 92 clubs, that is ridiculous.

I see that Keith Hill has been sacked at Barnsley yesterday to make it 47!!!

I certainly ran out of patience with PS last season but to his credit he has turned things around incredibly this term. I have no desire to see a change at the helm because of one defeat in a long line of successes. The turnover of managers is awful but at the same time look at how many give scant regard to their contracts and jump ship anyway.

In a results driven game, with chairman needing success to balance the books, then managers are vulnerable. Hopefully ours will show he has what it takes for the long haul and RM will back him.

Crazy...I think that Steve Tilson was the sixth or seventh longest serving manager until the managerial change here.

Fair play to paul sturrock i couldnt see anything but a mid table finish but he has worked miracles and we are playing some great football.

My appologies

Must confess that I felt PS had run his race earlier in the season. However, building on recent success may be out of his hands. He has already been handicapped during October by being unable to strengthen the squad when numbers were short.
We are fast approaching the end of Mkanadawire and Laird's loan spells. Not only have we got 2 cup matches coming up but more games during January against play off rivals.
Could be a very interesting next week or two, unless funds really are available to replace those two in the event of the loans not being extended.
The unbeaten run has merely helped us play catch up.We cannot afford another period now where PS has his hands tied.

I don't think blue79 exists in the members list anymore, BHCB does though.

Get Real.

I think Paul has done and will continue to do a good job for us.
When you look at the situation he inheirited, the fragile financial situation, all the other problems clubs at this level face, he's done extremely well.

We are not Chelsea, we are Southend in the 4th Division. A lesser manager or one of the "Muppets" we've had manage the club in the past could not have done what he's done. His experience, contacts within the game and tough skin has made the difference.

Keep up the good work Paul. I'm confident you'll get us up this season.
