I suppose that this means that the likes of Steve Tilson and Paul Brush "know sweet FA about football" as they clearly like and support him and play him whenever he is available as has every manager he has played under at SUFC.

I can't believe people on here are actually slagging off our captain. The man who has so much passion for this club. The captian that has lead us to two succesive promotions and two ldv van trophy finals in the past 3 seasons.

I really have to question whether these people actually know anything about football and actually realise what a pivitol part maher is to this club.

Maher is southend through and through. Every great club has a great captain leading them from the front and that is what Maher is - a great captain.

All this sh!t about he was also responsible for the previous 6 years demise!! I am sure most of it was to do with boardroom antics, clueless managers and players that I would only just put on a bench for a ryman league side back in the day (with the exception of a few).

Yes ok Maher may not be our most skillful player, our fastest player or our most entertaining player but without him we wouldn't be where we are now. The job he does for us is amazing. I ask you all to watch him carefully aginst Bristol this Saturday and see what he does for us. the way he picks out the short balls and long balls. The way he controls the tempo of the game. The way he closes down the oposition and wins the ball back.

I think people who think he is no good should take a hard look at themselves and question whether they are trye fans of this club and want the club to succed rather than criticise a man who plays with his heart on his sleeve with in, week out.

If it's not a wind-up then this whole thread is scandalsous. He's our most loyal player, our captain, a former player of the season and been named two years in succession by fellow pros from two separate divisions as one of the very best amongst them. Think that happens when you're "sh!t"

Every manager of the past 9 seasons has played him in every game he's been available for and once again, Kev's made the top 10 in the division for goal assists. I don't often get angry on the strength of another persons opinion, especially as it's what a message board is supposed to be about but this kind of negativity and spite towards Maher seems to me to be tremendously disloyal and ungrateful. I'm disappointed that this is what one of key players gets after back-to-back promotions and three trips to The Millenium Stadium. Have a word with yourself....
