laptop advice

However to judge a Computer should not be based on specs but benchmarks.

When buying a computer you should make sure that you get the best performance for your buck and that it includes everything you need from it.

If you are into music or graphics I would say that Mac is your best bet, if you are planning on gaming then a high spec PC, if you just want to surf or read email then a Netbook is all you need, if you want to really understand Computers and programming then Linux is your answer on any Intel based Laptop.

OP says it'll be used for work, store music etc so kinda rules out a netbook and high spec gaming laptop.

My point has been backed by the post by Ozzy stating that he was under the impression MS came first with a GUI and thus Apple did the one button mouse just to be different from MS.

I would not say Apple stole the idea as they were invited by Xerox Parc as they had invested in Apple, at the time they saw it as a benefit to get the Engineers from Apple in.

Unless he edited a post, I don't see him state anything about GUI's so that's why I posted the above. Maybe stole is harsh, plagiarised would probably be more appropriate as you used earlier but plagiarism in programming is pretty commonplace (not meaning theft of source code etc of course, just the idea of seeing something then recreating it and attempting to improve the original concept!)

No but he was talking about the mouse/touch pad which are common place due to the advent of the GUI, non?

As a programmer i am well aware of the 'why re-invent the wheel' ideology. :p

Well I started writing in that post what possibly could be the work that it will be used for but thought it better that the OP enlightened us rather than trying to guess at the myriad of potential uses that it could be put to.

A bit of a stretch taking someone talking about a touchpad and then interpreting it as a statement that he thought MS invented the GUI dont you think? :thump:

However it seems my gut instinct proved correct :whistling: I was trying to point out that Apple did not create the single button just to be different from Microsoft as they had the GUI first.

Anyway we seem to be straying from the OP.
