According to the BBC team news he does.
Like you, I thought it was Saturday he'd be out for.

less than 10 minutes later i would have wanted to kill the *******.
i know he is a professional, but kev is one of his best mates and they are both committed to the club.
yeah maybe he should have done it properlly and broke the tw&ts leg but that wouldnt have achiaved much and he would have prob ended up with a 5 game ban or something!
it was silly but i would have done the same
i'll go along with that. How many of those saying how stupid gower was can honestly say, hand on heart, that they'd have not done the same, or at least have ben angry enough to do something similar?
We all over-react at times but I would have done the same - the chaeting bar steward ! Not right I knowm but cheats I cannot abide!

I wouldn't have done the same.

If you start cheating back or using illegal tactics (ie dodgy tackles) you just start lowering yourself to their level.

I can obviously see why he did it, but it's still no justification. as Wrongun said, at 0-0, even down to 10 men, you still have a chance. Down to 9 and it's a nigh-on impossible task to get anything out of the game, as we discovered.

If you do something silly and react like that you basically let the whole team down, and for what? Duguid gets a mouthful of mud? Then just gets back up and on with the game. It achieves absolutely nothing and is just stupid, unprofessional and playing right into Duguid's hands.

the thing is that's very easy to say after you've calmed down. Out on the pitch, in the heat of the moment, it's not so easy to stay sensible.

Obviously it goes without saying that what he did was silly but he is a human being, not a robot.

I have to admit I would count myself as a reasonable person but to be honest I probably would have done the same - the only difference is that Duguid wouldn't have got up afterwards, or he would have ended up in the Barside.

But then if you chop him down illegally, then you're a cheat as well and, morally-speaking, you don't have a leg to stand on.

You can't criticise someone for cheating, if you're a cheat yourself.

Funny how some people get passion and commitment mixed up with indiscipline isn't it?  Any player seen berating a team mate or a referee gets referred to in these seemingly glowing terms.

Had Gower shown some commitment towards us keeping 10 players on the pitch we just might have got something from Saturday's game.
Spot on mate.

And also, no matter how many people would have reacted in the same way, it still doesn't make it right.

What Gower did was unprofessional and he let the team down.

I wouldn't say it was cheating. He hadn't attempted to gain an unfair advantage over the opposition by doing what he did. He committed a bad foul and was punished for it.

At least it shows that he cares.

But, you could say he was cheating in as much as he contravened the laws of the game, although clearly the contravention wasn't as abhorrent as Duguid's.

Perhaps I'm just getting too much into the semantics of the whole thing!
