Memory Lane Memorable matches for different reasons

Best away win - 4-1 beating Millwall on the opening of the New Den.
Best ever Southend performance - 1-0 loss to Everton in F A Cup, we played brilliantly, outplayed them but lost to a Peter Beardsley goal - scandalous!!
Ha! had a ticket for that game and was supposed to meet a good mate there.Having caught the milk train up from Bristol, where I was staying at the time, ran in to a few Lions at the Hole in the Wall pub in Waterloo and decided to take off for Fulham instead. :Dunce:

For all the wrong reasons.

Rochdale (A) in 2019. Last away game of the season. A win would see us essentially safe before the end of the season.

We were hardly in that match and lost 1-0. Southend fans fighting in the away end, some idiot also held onto the ball while we were chasing the game. A toxic atmosphere to say the least.

End of the game Dale fans invade the pitch (as it guaranteed their survival) and throw pyros into the away end.

Get out of there onto the coach, I recall Dale fans throwing some stuff at the coach and following it for a bit before we got out of there.

Long miserable coach ride home and got back in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Blackburn at home first home game of the season only a couple of years back. Cox and Kightly. Best performance in years really thought we had a chance after that game…..
Oh and Mulgrews free kick wasn’t bad for them on his return to the Hall

There you go.
Time fly's. It was 5 years ago. Doesn't seem like it.

Fat Nev was outstanding in that game, and his save from Andy Ansah was like how the hell did he save that. If Ansah had scored, could have been a different result.
Outplayed Everton and out sung their fans.

Think Dave Webb handed his notice in after that game aswell.

West Brom away in the Championship - we drew 1-1 with Matt Harrold scoring (!!) and they sacked Bryan Robson after !!
There should be a thread just on managers getting sacked after we play them!
Didn't it happen to Ardiles with The Toon?

No, well not directly afterwards anyway.

Our 4 - 0 win against Newcastle was New Years Day 1991 (which interestingly fell on the 1st January:Winking:). He was sacked in February after Newcastle's 5 - 2 defeat to Oxford United at the Manor Ground.

I'm going to nominate Blackburn away when we drew 2 all, with Speedie robbing us of the win with a last minute winner

We.stood up against the Dalglish/Hartford Combo, gave as good as we got.

One of if not the best SUFC away performances l have seen and l include Everton away in that.

My first visit to Rootes Hall was in (I think) around 1979, when we were coming to terms with being in the third tier for the first time. I seem to remember you had a big open end then (to our left). About twenty or so of us were in the paddock and had to be escorted back to our coach by the police. And we lost 4-0.

The second was "that game" in 2019. I think your fans who travelled must have felt like gatecrashers at a private party.
