Mulgrew (not signing)

**** sake this has really ****ed me off now....

No Gower and No Mulgrew.....Great.........Looking forward to seeing Herd and Forshaw rip the league apart.....

Im going to bed now as I am ****ed off.....

Anyone on us @ 12/1 to go down this season, the odds look tempting.

Tilson has got it all to do now in the transfer market.

Guess we'll sign another 40 year old!

What is going on at Roots Hall?

Flavs goes for free
Gower Goes for free
Bailey on the list
Clarke on the list
Walker signed up for a six figure fee
Paul Furlong is signed up
Collis goes

Mulgrew should have been snapped up ages ago, and typical, Ron Martin quibbles over the fee that Wolves wanted.
Yet we pay out that sort of money on donkeys like Foran, Revell, and Paynter.

The club are losing it big time!

Oh dear Ron!!! Should not of mess about and just bought him!!! (Tilly wanted him).

You can't blame Tilson for walking out on SUFC. I'm one of Tilly's biggest critics etc, and imho you can't blame him moving to another club which has bigger ambitions, and some actual money to spend.

How many times are we going hear about this war chest that Tilson has at his disposal?

Where's the money gone Ron?

One pre season defeat, a left back joining a bigger club at the 12th hour and TTK is out in force slamming the club.

Doesn't take much does it? Love to see your reaction when something serious actually happened.

Just f**ks me off that we mess around and quibble over a fee quoted from Wolves, and let a really good left back slip through our fingers.

Also winds me up that why we always leave it so late to get players in?

I know it's worked in the past, but one of these days it might hit us hard.

Also, i couldn't give two hoots about the result tonight, as it's just a friendly!

At the end of the day, the squads been thread bare for at least a month now... I completely understand the best efforts are being made and that we are doing our level best to bring in players of the right calibre, but going being just under 3 weeks until the new season with 13 players is shocking.

I've yet to see if Herd can make the step-up, and pre-season friendlies are a different level to competitive matches, whether they're against Witham Town or Real Madrid. First game of the season is against Peterborough, who will have George Boyd and Mackail-Smith as well as possibly Aaron McLean... capable of giving an 18 year old on his debut a roasting that he may not recover from.

IF we are still in the same position defensively on August 9th, i'd imagine Tilly will push Barrett out to LB and leave Sankofa in the centre with Clarkey (pending if he stays or not...). Obviously i've never seen Herd play before, but from what i'm hearing on here he doesn't seem to be ready to be our 1st choice LB.

Three weeks is hopefully long enough to get a new face or two in there at the back however...

Hugely disappointed about this as I felt sure the deal would be sorted out. Can't help thinking that we really do need to see some cash being flashed in the next few days in a convincing fashion to offset Charlie's loss.

Only player I think we could sign nearly as good as Mulgrew is Wolves Daniel Jones, he was on loan to Northampton last season so could be seen as surplus to requirements there.
I think some money is going to have to be spent.

I'm gutted about this but we don't really know who is at fault here. I don't think we can say for sure that Ron should have flashed the cash earlier as Mulgrew now says he wanted a move back to Scotland and most likely wants to try and get into their national side. I reckon it's just one of those things but very disappointing nonetheless as I'm not sure we could get many better defenders for the money.

Gutted about this. His set pieces are awesome and his defending improved considerably, not to mention he has the height as well.
As someone alluded to, maybe make a move for Daniel Jones Wolves other left back, similar sort of player.

I think that's spot on.
Done a bit of digging this morning and from what I can see Aberdeen have only paid £80k for Charlie. That's less than Swindon had a bid accepted for by Wolves (unless that story was put out to appease their transfer-hungry fans too).

This & Tilly's comments last night, make me think it's all about coming back to Scotland, whether that's because of their young family or his desire to impress Burley and get in the Scotland XI I'm not sure.

I'll bet even if we are penny-pinching just now, and we did get as far as preparing a contract offer to Mulgrew, it would have been on a higher basic wage than he'll get at Pittodrie!

Still gutted, in the cold light of day though

Missing out on Mulgrew is disappointing, but it's not the end of the world.

Mulgrew obviously wants to play in Scotland, if Wolves have accepted a lower bid for him than we put in. So it's down to the player not us "not flashing the cash".

I cant remember reading anywhere that Mulgrew said he wanted to go back to scotland, yes there are logical assumptions for the reason but when he rejected Swindon because he wanted to go back to Scotland you would have thought Malpas would have highlighted this to Swindon fans as to why he never joined them. I just think we were too slow, we tied Walker up before the season ended and I think we should have tied the Mulgrew deal up at the end of May personally

I think money would of been the problem here. At that point could we afford to pay £150k + for 2 players ?
