"Steve Tilson, Manager, Southend United FC
Southend United FC v Barnsley FC
FA Cup 3rd Round, 06 January 2007
Admitted breach of FA Rule E3 – abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards a Match Official

Result: Fined £50 and warned as to future conduct"

Given the penalty, it was obviously not viewed as a very serious offence by
the FA !

Cost them more than that to fine him and Tillys bonus for getting Spurs would have paid for it :)

Almost as much of a farce as UEFA fining one of the richest clubs £6k for "failing to control their fans" :fury:

That'll teach the fan to flaunt his cash and take his fans along to the game.

But not as stupid as FIFA fining the Spanish FA and Aragones all of about £5K each for the events in the Spain England game in Madrid and Aragones' comments about Henry in the build up to a game.

:guns:

Harry Redknapp got all of...

£450 fine for similar offences.

If you ask me it's a farce.

Actually it was £750. What is a farce? Do you think all fines for the same "offence" should be the same?

Clearly abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour comes in different degrees and the discretionary (some might say, arbitrary) nature of punishment allows the extent of the abuse or insult to be reflected in the penalty.

Therefore Tilly has much to learn in respect of the quality of his abuse and insults before he aspires to Paul Jewell levels of sanctions. Seriously it was obviously not viewed as a serious misdemeanour and the penalty is apposite.

No farce there, but then I wasn't asking you.

But England got away with the events that marred the England v Turkey game up in Sunderland, so ...

45 quid isn't really going to stop many managers from saying there piece to ref's the fa should understand if a ref makes terrible decisions all game and costs a team three points which happens way to often then you can't expect a manager not to get upset.

it must be so hard for players and managers sometimes to keep there mouths shut when they don't agree with the ref. if they do the fa just gives them a ban and a fine. don't know if i could do it.

Marred?
I'd say spiced up.

I'd rather bomb Turkey than Iraq

Face it, the Turkish ex-pats who came from every corner of the UK weren't exactly blameless either! When thier buses turned up they were all miming the "throat slash" gesture at us!

We got fined (SZFC) £8 for one of our players getting a yellow for coming back onto the field after injury without the refs permission!!

surely professional teams should be made more an example of!

The point here is that if he was technically guilty the FA have no discretion and must find him guilty. Where they can however exercise their discretion is in the punishment. A £50 fine says that either he was technically in the wrong, but the FA have a lot of sympathy for him or it was an incredibly minor offence.

No, that's not a fine. It's an administration fee for processing the caution which is charged to the player, through the club, and is the same amount throughout football.

Contrary to popular belief, referees receive no commission on this fee!

Without knowing the precise details of this incident I couldn't comment, but unless there were extenuating circumstances such a sanction might be considered as harsh at that level of football (no slight intended!).
