New owners quick start guide

I know it is trendy to coat linjs to West Ham, but what about Paul Brush and Kevin Lock coaching us to promotions. Dave Webb and Steve Tilson may not have achieved their double promotions without them.

Good shout on Paul Brush. Knew there had to be someone with a W*** H** link who’d done well for us in amongst the long list of regrets.

Happy to give credit to Kevin Lock as well. I wasn’t even aware of him being ex-Hamster as that before I was born.

But that’s a very short list compared to all those who have come up short.

We are not The Blues. That is club imposed BS. So many clubs identify as The Blues. The Shrimpers has always been our nickname and is unique
It is entirely possible to have more than one nickname. Fans have used Blues for years, without any club prompting, with chants of ‘Blue Army’, shouts of ‘Come on you Blues’. In addition to being Shrimpers and Blues we’re also (sea, sea sea) Seasiders.

As Terry Alderton once sang We're the Seasiders, the Soul Survivors, the Blues, the Shrimpers, the Barmy Army nothing's gonna stop us now....

Brian Dear keeps a decent pub.

With hopefully the new beginnings for the club under new ownership, I thought it might be a great idea to capture a quick start guide from a fans prospective. I'm sure there will be some differing views, but interesting to see where we differ. I'll kick off:

  • We are the Shrimpers, not The Blues
  • Despite what Daggers fans think, they are not a local derby. They tend to treat it as a cup final, where we see it as just another game
  • Don't underestimate the legend status that Maher and Collymore have at the club - tread carefully here!
  • We currently have the best management team we have seen in years in Maher, Bentley & Currie (and Still)
  • We did have a very productive youth set-up and on the brink of collapse. This needs to be re-invigorated as it was a source of playing staff and revenue. Its in tatters and reputational damage is immense of the last few years
  • Don't take any advice from Harry Redknap under any circumstances!
  • Don't employ Phil Brown again
  • Allow a Shrimpers Trust member on the board
  • Open communication with the fans will get us firmly onside and together we can make great things happen again
  • The staff at the club are truely amazing and have been through hell over the last few years. Please look after them.
  • Look at some of our kits from the 90s compared to now. So dull. Bring back the unique identity (personally love early 90s blue and yellow but suspect I'm in a minority here)
  • This club works like clockwork when the fans are engaged with and involved.
  • Some fans would love the North bank back as a home end - maybe something could be done for our remaining time at the Hall?
  • Can we have better beers on tap in the West?
  • Merch is very lacking over the last 10 years or so.
  • Please let us re-enter the west stand bar from behind the stand. What was that all about?
  • Oh yeah, we also love Adam Barrett and Freddy Eastwood, if you should ever have an opportunity to work with them.
  • If anyone asks who put the ball in the Bury net? the answer is Ian Benjamin :Thumbs up:
Sure there are many more points and also disagreement with the above?
WE DONT HAVE TO PLAY GREAT WAKERING IN W FRIENDLY EVERY SEASON

It is entirely possible to have more than one nickname. Fans have used Yellows away for years, without any club prompting, with chants of ‘Yellows’, shouts of ‘Come on you yellows’. In addition to being Shrimpers and Blues we’re also (sea, sea sea) Seasiders.

As Terry Alderton once sang We're the Seasiders, the Soul Survivors, the Blues, the Shrimpers, the Barmy Army nothing's gonna stop us now....
Some away perspective added.

And iirc didn't Bobby Moore and Brian Dear have a bit of a kick about for the Spam with a modicum of success?
Mr Dear has been an absolute stalwart for our club imo.

To get this thread back on the topic if the new owners want a quick win they should get @slapheadsteve to run the bar.

If they ever went to Rochford Beer Festival (and as local lads I’d like to think they might have) they’ll know what an amazing job he does.

Ron was too stubborn to listen to his offers to help but maybe the new guys will be more open minded?

But maybe it’ll be best for my wallet, liver etc if they don’t.

If we ever have a top quality keeper, some will think that Bart is better.

We don’t have a theme song, but there are a few options. The club could really do something here - consistent plays before kick off. Personally - “only you” would be ideal.

The new stadium should have somewhere for the local chip shop. And to cater for the 22000 fans option at that.

Some quick wins at roots hall - burger vans in the car park, more coffee / drinks options for halftime. Work with local schools to offer season ticket parking. Some portable options.

Better range of merchandise in the shop. Make it possible to buy Southend shirts outside of the club shop too - always bugged me this.

Don’t offer onions in burgers as we’d get bored.

Multiball system at home to get more ball in play time + other teams will hate it.

Pay the staff on time and build a big team to include them.

And as soon as the deal is signed and before Ron has cleared his office, take a poo on his desk

That applies to a lot of things. Im pretty sure within our fanbase we have the skills to pretty much improve the entire club from how it is now. Hopefully the goodwill will flow from both sides.
