He's also following Darren Currie and Mark Bentley too......
Mark Bentley would be an interesting pick. He certainly seems to be doing the business at Canvey. But I have a feeling, given Stan's statement about the search for a manager, that the Committee are particularly targetting managers which have demonstrated they have a good track record in the National League

Why Keates?

I’ve seen his name mentioned a few times but I know next to nothing about him as a manager (was a good player) and a cursory glance at his wiki page seems unremarkable.
Indeed, Keates was dismissed as Walsall manager in April 2019. This followed winning just three, drawing three and losing 14 of his last 20 games as manager.

Neil Harris and Adam Barrett. Worked together before. Also two Southend fans who would give blood, sweat and tears to bring back credibility to our club (and a long awaited turn around in our fortunes)
This would be the dream but even if they wanted to come, I just think it's not the right time for them, they'd have too much to lose. Especially Adam Barrett as one of the most popular players in a long time.

Stan is following Dean Keates on Twitter. We should not read too much into that, but I think Keates has already demonstrated he is no mug when it comes to managing in the National League and probably has the best years ahead of him.
Not sure he's a big enough name for blues

For me, how big their name is doesn't matter 1 jot, it's moving Blues forward that is crucial.

After all how big a name was Tilly in the wider footballing world, before he was appointed manager? But he was a perfect fit. Don't get hung up on names, that is partly what has contributed to the mess we now find ourselves.

Show me a manager that doesnt have a bad record on their CV at some point (NOT PEP! NOT PEP! lol).

But Tilly is a perfect example - hasnt he got the best win % in our history over a long time as a manager, but barely got a win at Lincoln and anyone looking at his wiki page will scoff at that Lincoln spell.

Its about the right person at the right time.

Keates had a good record in this division with Wrexham who are a similar (if not bigger) club than us and had similar issues money wise when he was there. Only really lost that job due to the Hollywood invasion.
