back to 1997/98 then
and Geoff Boycott is talking to a Brit fella living in Barbados. They got discussing stuff and eventually the expat offered Sir Geoff the full use of his massive, luxurious, hilltop house for the duration of the England tour of that winter.
On the open market it would have cost a fortune, butthe old chap was delighted to play host to Boycs - besides, he had other properties he could stay in while Geoff took over his normal gaff.
So, the cricket tour comes and goes, and the old fella moves back into his own house. And lo and behold, waiting for him is a neatly folded letter from the former opener. Thanks for the hospitality? A small donation? Hope to see you again? Almost.
"Next time I stay here, make sure there are cereal bowls. I don't like eating my breakfast from flat dishes."
