For months we have been told this ancient site has been systematically destroyed by IS.

Today it has been revealed the actual damage is....virtually zero!

Western propaganda at it's finest, trying to scare everyone in the western world that IS will kill us all !

For the record I personally have little interest in monuments here or anywhere !

Genuine question, When it comes to being socially aware, is there anything you do care passionately about in the world today?

What about an old football ground? E.g. Goodison Park - both an old building and a football ground!

Update on Palmyra from The Times today...

The first foreign experts to reach the world heritage site at Palmyra have described the scale of destruction at the museum by Islamic State extremists as catastrophic.

Bartosz Markowski, from the Polish archaeological centre at the University of Warsaw, said that the remains of priceless sculptures were being recovered but that it would take years to salvage what was left.

The Polish team found that most of the 200 statues and artefacts left on the first floor of the museum had been smashed with hammers. Many other relics have disappeared, but how many is not known. Much of Palmyra, in the Syrian desert northeast of Damascus, is off limits while Russian experts clear booby traps.

Damage to the museum’s contents had been expected after the jihadists published videos of two temples and a victory arch being blown up, and of men using sledgehammers to destroy statues. The Lion of al-Lat, a 2,000-year-old statue that stood at the entrance to the museum, has been upended by a bulldozer, its face left in several pieces.

“We collected everything we could. The fragments were spread around the whole museum among broken glass and furniture . . . It is a catastrophe,” Mr Markowski said. “I think most of the objects can be restored, but they will never look as they did before.”

So in conclusion, anything that Mrs B posts up, believe the exact opposite.

The footage shown last week clearly proved the damage to the main structures was small,I thought IS told the world they intent to blow it all up.

majorfail.

To be fair, more that the original reports from last week weren't quite giving us the full story. More details are emerging as people on the ground start actually assessing the damage.

ISIS are definitely ***** though. We can all agree on that.
