Scully announces management aims
January 11, 2005
Pat Scully has announced his intention to embark on a managerial career in the eircom League – adding to speculation that he will be appointed as Kilkenny City boss within the next few days.
Scully, 34, brought an end to an illustrious playing career when his spell at Drogheda United finished 12 months ago.
And after a year out of the game, he could be set to return in a dug-out role at First Division Kilkenny.
While nothing has yet been confirmed, the former Arsenal, Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers star is the front-runner for the vacant manager’s job at Buckley Park, and he has revealed that it has long been his ambition to get into management.
He told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Part of the reason I stopped playing was to let people know of my availability to manage. Now that was a huge risk and required a lot of patience. But I want the chance. I want to take the things I learned from my career – the meticulousness of the preparation at Arsenal, the ambition of Shelbourne – and use that.”
